I'm getting married this summer, and would like to buy each of my groomsmen a knife as a gift. My budget is $35-$45 per gift. So far, the only idea I have is the Leatherman Squiret P4.

Can anyone recommend any cool gift/gadget ideas?

Thanks
Dave

I don't think you could go wrong with a SAK. You could get a very nice, and classy, alox model for that money.

I'd suggest the Soldier or Farmer. Farmer is essentially the same as the Soldier, but includes a very handy (and sharp) woodsaw.

I like the idea of a SAK. A squirt isn't a bad idea either, but I think your friends would get a lot more practical use out of the SAK. Don't get me wrong, I tote a full sized Leatherman to work everyday, but I'm not a big fan of the little itty bitty Leatherman - anything smaller than a Juice looks too small to be good for much. You get a nice SAK though and you can expect a lot of good use out of it.

A nephew of mine got married a while back and I suggested he give his groomsman stainless Spyderco Crickets. Great little knives that cut like a much bigger knife - very thin, engraveable, lightweight, strong frame lock, and quality VG-10 steel blade that comes scary sharp. (about $45 bucks at NGK) My nephew was married over 6 mos. ago and his groomsmen are still telling him how cool they think the Crickets are. :D

When In got married this spring, I gave the best man and the Seating Arrangement Enforcement Goons sgian dhus.

Which was entirely appropriate given that it was a Scottish wedding, which calls for a little personal armament :).

Hafta second the Victorinox SAK suggestion. Solid, very useful, trusty companion in just about any situation. Oh yah, congrats David.

While the Centofante4 and the Endura are great knives, I think that for a gift, a metal handle is a little classier, and looks better. May not be a better knife, but it is a better gift.

Depending on who your groomsmen are, something like a Leek or Cricket would be good if they're younger, more outgoing guys. An alox handled SAK or a nice Case Stockman if they're a little more traditional.

I can vouch for the SAK gift idea as that is what I received when I was a groomsman for a friend of mine. He got everyone an SAK Spartan, with the exception of the best man who got a very nice multi-tool.

How bout the byrd line of knives from spyderco? Cheap and with a wide array of choices.

Stick with the Squirt P4.

I carry mine every day and use it for everything from opening mail/boxes to scuffing pool cue tips. The pliers are big enough to handle hook removal in small pan fish and perch. I'm even thinking of getting the S4 model to use around the office.

Bottom of the line Kershaw Leek, easily engraveable and a sweet little knife.
2nd that...I gave Stainless Kershaw Leeks as groomsmens gifts to non-knife-nuts who still EDC theirs to this day. 440A is easy to sharpen and holds a great edge reasonably well, and speed assist adds to the "wow" factor.

Congrats on your impending wedding! :D

I gave out 2 engraved Spartans last Christmas to co-workers. They loved them! I suggest black scales with white lettering for a wedding gift.

A friend used to work for an engraving company and many people gave out engraved Chives. They are nice looking and "cool" toys for big boys.

If someone gave me a SAK I would take it home and throw it in a drawer somewhere and that would be the end of it. If it was me giving knives for gifts I would go to Walmart and for 40 bucks I would buy Spyderco Natives with S30V blades. That is something they can really use.
