recommendation for knife for wedding party gift

take a look at ROSARMs, they make awesome, very personalized, unique, high quality knives at a very reasonable cost. They are made out of a high titanium, high nickel alloy similar to BG42.

I may be a cheap ass but I bought my groomsman SAK spartan with their initials engraved. It's more useful than any one hander. It opens BEER and WINE bottles :D

Very important.

Everyone knows you never give a knife as a gift at a wedding, it symbolizes the cutting of the ties of marriage. In a lot of circles it's considered bad luck and might be seen as offensive. Just something to consider.

He is giving the knives to his groomsmen, this is very, VERY common. I would imagine the superstition that you are referring to would apply if a knife was given to the couple.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the Kershaw Leek yet? It's perfect for engraving, and the composite blade or damascus versions are gorgeous.

hi guys, just wanted to thank everyone for their input.

i have decided against a knife after looking at some models and thinking about my groomsmen and ushers... they aren't every day knife carryers like myself. and if they did carry them, i know a couple groomsmen that will use the knife as a pry tool, as i've seen them use in the past.

soo.. the multi-tools were right next to the knives and the new version of the leatherman wave looks really nice (i have a really old one). also the surge. so i will be deciding on which multi-tool to give.

but for myself.. (!) i will be getting (in some time.. weddings are expensive)..
- the nakamura, that handle detail is so cool
- spyderco delica (stainless)
- spyderco kopa (pearl ... expensive though)

thanks again guys

If their job is related to IT or electronics, do consider a Victorinox Cybertool family instead.
Also, for classic multitools, several people tend to prefer the Victorinox Swisstool. I don't have it so I don't have an opinion on them, but I do have a Leatherman Surge and I do think that it's too heavy for pleasant carry.

I think a Wave might be a bit big and heavy for non-knife people to carry often and use. Check out some of the smaller models like the Juice

A gentlemen-style knife tends to be accepted, or even loved, by non knife people as well. But indeed you have to convince them that the tip WILL BREAK when used for prying.
With this remark, the above suggested Spyderco Kiwi is great, as is the Terzuola, or nearly any Mcusta or Moki. Or at a lower price (made in China...) the recent Benchmade Nagara simply oozes gentlemen class - I played with one and now I have it on order.
An alternative is a typical French EDC slipjoint knife, these are usually elegantly designed and are great for food, but can handle more cutting tasks. Investigate for example the very nice French brand Chambriard who make world-class "Le Thiers" style knives at a reasonable price - I often use one during meals and take it sometimes for picnics during hiking:

I do think that all these are classier gifts than a multitool (though the Victorinox is rather nice)
