Recommendation for knife similar to Opinel?

Just buy an Opinel? They have some nice wood choices if you want something looking a bit nicer. I'm a fan of the olive wood.

MAM, from Portugal.
This one is a straight friction older, with large sheepsfoot blade. They also make some with a spear point blade, and with or without a liner lock with all blade styles.

I bought three of them long ago in a local fleamarket to keep in my van before a trip to Morocco... should the need to thank someone for help arose. I got to gift one of them to a kid who helped us moving rocks arround when we had a misshap while offroading (sliced a good 4 inches of the sidewall in a brand new tire with a sharp rock and then got stuck). They work well and I recall they were pretty cheap!

Even if you don't want to have a wood handle... Opinel has a few models with molded plastic handles (even with a shackle tool built in the blade, combo edge, whistle and I believe ferro rod!)

I bought this Joker NE23 made in Spaim for about 12 bucks on Amazon. It is just like an opinel, even has the same ring locking mechanism but it is less refined.

I wonder why there are so few convex folders. I mean there aren't so many knife makers that make convex knives at all. Fällkniven do make some folding knives, but they all have FFG for some reason, not convex like their fixed blades. Bark River Knives are also famous for convex grinds, but they don't make any folders at all. (I guess I answered my own question.)

Check out Courty & Fils in Paris (http://www.couteaux-courty.com/). They have a wide selection of traditional French and other folders, and they do ship internationally. (If you happen to be in Paris, it's off on a side street between the Opera House and the Louvre... I got my Opinel #8 Carbon there a few years back.
