Recommendation for the Byrds

A buddy of mine was grilling me for folder recommendations for some friends of his. Given that I have been really impressed with my first Spyderco (Native) that I got a little while back, I of course recommended some Spyderco models that seemed to meet their specs. He sent me email today to tell me they went with Spyderco and he pointed me to the online page from which they bought their "Spyderco" Flights.

Hrm.

Not exactly what I had in mind but do any of you have opinions of Byrds in general or of this model in particular? It's not the Ladybug, Dragonfly, Delica or Native I was recommending but whatever. Any thoughts?

byrds are good for the money. I have a Crossbill, which has the same handle as the Flight. I don't like the clip, but it's a comfortable handle and the blade looks nice on the Flight. Good intro as a decent knife that doesn't cost a lot.

I have the cara cara 2 in plain and combo edge, as well as a meadowlark. They are nowhere near as polished as Spyderco's, but absolutely fantastic for the price. Only thing is that the clip screws are about as soft as they can be.

My new Cara Cara's FRN handle is much more grippy than my new Endura. It is a very rugged medium use value knife! Much better than the Sogzilla line and $5-$10 cheaper.

cara cara 2 is a great knife in G10. so cheap you dont mind actually using it or losing it. I got the crossbill as well and its nearly as long as a civilian but a lot cheaper. I dont like the clip on the crossbill like others have mentioned. I once tore out a chunk of the top of my right thumb cuz i sat weird and it scraped my finger in a weird way.

I bought 2 cara cara 2's so far (gave one away to a friend) and even though it is sharp enough to cut paper or shave hair off your arm, it was far duller then any spyderco I have come across. It's great if you know how to sharpen but sending it out for sharpening just add's cost. Plus as you use the knife, no matter what kinda super steel it has your eventually gonna have to sharpen it.

Great responses - glad I asked here. I was going to feel like a jerk if they ended up hating their not-exactly-Sypdercos because of blade problems or something. You made me feel better. :D

Thanks!
