RECOMMENDATION: My Becker BK2 wants a sidekick!

I think I'm getting the Benchmade 580 just for indulgence, but not anytime soon.

I'm going to get another cheap Buck (110, 371, 301)...I was looking at the 371's and I see that there have been many changes in steel and I have no idea what's in my 371, (can't remember what year I bought mine...2007, 2008 maybe).

I'm almost sold on the BK14 only because those Tweeners are a long time from here. The question that I have is on
the Mora's...what do I get? I looked at the knives after I saw the recommendations...but, what am I looking for?
Stainless or carbon steel?

I love Mora's carbon steel. Try a Clipper. The last one I got was only $15 shipped.

I got the mora companion MG stainless the other day, I can't say enough good things about this knife. I paid about $13 for it (from baryonyx knives).

I recommend getting the stainless mora, I don't see any advantage by going with the carbon version.

Here's my mora companion MG stainless:

I've been thinking about the blades the last couple of days and instead of getting a bunch of so-so knives...I'm getting a Mora Companion and either a Fallkniven F1 or a Buck Alpha Hunter 194.

What do you think? I like the looks of the F1 slightly better, but Fallkniven's warranty seems to fall well behind Buck's forever warranty. What about the VG10 vs the 154CM?

When heat treated properly (think buck knives) 420hc is an excellent steel. No it can't compete with the likes of s90v or 20cp but for every day use it should be
just fine.

Which brings me to my recommendation. If youre looking for a folder to compliment your'e BK2 I would go for a spyderco Gayle bradley. It cuts like a laser and is built like a tank. Its a bit spendier then the Barrage 580 but will handle all the tasks that the bk2 isn't ideal for (edc, fine work) and then some. The CPM-M4 will show up The 154CM when it comes to edge retention. I have a large custom fixed blade similar in size and build to the BK2 and together with the GB and my
leatherman wave they make up the only knives in my modest collection i actually use. I couldn't ask for a better folder, and paired with the BK2 and a good multi-tool, you wouldn't be wanting for cutting implements any time soon.

Just my $0.2

both steels will give you good performance, i would start by looking at which knife design fits your use better.

Thanks for the input to all...I ended up placing an order for a couple Mora Companions, a High Carbon and a Stainless, through Baryonyx Knives and an LMF through Amazon.

The bladeforums motto: when in doubt, buy both.

Good choices, I think you'll be happy with those knives.

That's not nearly enough, you need heaps more knives - we can help with suggestions.

How about a Victorinox Alox Farmer?

I use the bk-11. But I may upgrade to a BK-14. However, the Bk 11 does open bottles. Maybe I won't upgrade.
