Recommendation Needed

I am in need of a fixed blade combat knife. I want the blade to be approx. 6-7 inches in length and I was wondering what the suspects use/recommend. I can't afford to pay big $$. $200 would probably be close to my limit. I am thinking you guys would like Striders, but any advice will do.

Thanks.

For a fixed blade, I can only recommend the Strider range. You may find they are at the top end of your price range, but worth every cent !

I don't have one, but like the looks of the terzuola/camillus CQB1
cheers,
Derek
If I were to get a custom, it would probably be a lightfoot, but they are $300.

Scott,
I posted it here because I wanted the opinion of the Usual Suspects.

Thanks.

Once you feel a diamond cord wrap, it will speak for itself.

And the same goes for a knife...

Some of my Knives and other neat things

If you like Japanese style knives, then Don is right. Mike Snody is the best value for the money period. If you want more a field type knife then I would say save up the extra money to by a Strider. You willnot regret it. I have 2 of their fixed blades and will own more. Another maker to consider is Chris Hatin. I have 2 of his knives and recommend them without reservation also. www.hatintec.com I have an AT6 and it is one heck of a knife.

One of the 5.5 inch Chris Reeve knives should serve you just fine and can be had for about $200 used, but NIB. In that size, I have the Shadow IV and find it to be a tough, well designed, comfortable knife to use. You can beat the daylights out of them and for a modest fee, CRK can freshen the edge up and return it to you with new Kalguard.

Busse is also one tough knife. The Basic #7 is good value and should suit your purposes.

You also might look into Newt Livsey's knives. He makes a very good custom knife at a very affordable prices

I used to be disgusted .Now I am just amused....I feel much better now that I have given up all hope

I had a CQB-1, over all, great knife. The sheath system was really well thought out. The only problem with it was that it was a little large for everyday IWB carry.

I also own several of Newt Livesay's knives. Great working knives, escecially for the price. However, one of the worst Kydex sheaths I've ever gotten was with a Livesay "Bu-Shi".

If it came down to a "you could only have one large fixed blade" (other then one of Ernie's of course

), it would be a Randall #14. It's more then you $200 ceiling, but well worth it.

John

(P.S. I'd reeeeeally like a production "Mirage"

Brigadier -
It looks like a Strider Model GS is available on E-bay. Item #588128322 currently listed at $150.00. Just in case you're interested.
