Hey all!

My neighbour wants a folding pocket knife, with the primary purpose of substituting for a cutlery/steak knife (to eat with) when he goes down to the river to fish.

The guy is in his 70s and has requested the knife have five qualities:
1: no more than $75USD shipped, to Australia
2: holds an very sharp edge for a very long time
3: plain edge, not serrated
4: second hand is ok
5: must be lightweight, folder

I was thinking Delica, but I am open to other ideas.

What do y'all think?

Opinal No.8.. This is my go out to eat knife.. Kinda blends in with the table fare.. John:thumbup:

ZDP Delica...

First thing that I though of as well...a bit out of his price range, though, and even moreso with overseas shipping.

The standard vg10 delica should work quite well for him, though, I think. Especially if he just keeps it frequently stropped.

Good luck in your search!

Spyderco Native 5 (S35VN, lightweight FRN), great all around knife imo. The Delica 4 in ZDP as mentioned above, very hard steel but can rust. Of course the regular Delica 4 in VG10 is a good option too. If you want a slightly larger blade, the Manix 2 is a good value (has CTS-BD1 steel which might not stay as sharp as long as the VG10 though). Outside of Spyderco, the Ontario RAT II is a great value knife with AUS-8 and the Kershaw Camber comes with S30V steel (has aluminum scales so weighs slightly more than the others but still not bad at 3.8oz) . Another cheap option is the Cold Steel Tuff Lite with AUS-8A steel. If you are willing to spend just a few dollars more, the Benchmade Mini Griptilian is a very good little knife (they have a sheepsfoot that has the spyderco hole). Alot of choices, really cant go wrong. Good luck!

+1 for Opinel... no need for second hand at the price and boy do they slice like a mother.

Cold Steel Hold Out III
Cts-xhp steel
Flat ground
Under 3oz.

Spyderco Centofante 3
Vg10
Hollow grind
Under 3 oz.

Both can be had for under $70usd + shipping.

For a little less, Buck Vantage Pro, s30v, a bit bigger, a bit heavier, but still a good valued knife.

Also, Kizer sliver sunburst, s35v blade, just over 3oz.

+1 for the Delica - meets every single one of his bullets, although I'm not sure how much they are shipped to Australia

Should have mentioned, he's used to 440C steel - I'm trying to get him better for this money
