Recommendation on an AXIS lock

Having heard so much about Benchmade's AXIS lock and having played around with a Mini-Grip, I have finally broken down and decided to buy a Benchmade AXIS lock folder. So, I am coming to you, who has more experience with such Benchmade than I, for recommendations.

I really do not know much about the Benchmade line. I do know that I am not interested in Grips or Mini-Grips at this time. I work in an office environment, so larger folders and AO folders are not a good choice. I am not a fan of partially-serrated blades or black blades. Within such parameters (or others if I am missing something), what would you suggest?

For informationational purposes, my current favorite folders are: Buck Waimea, CRK Mnandi, Sage II, and Bob T Slip-it.

Thanks for the advice.

Most of the Axis Lock knives are bigger knives I cant think of any smaller than a mini grip. The 710 is one of the most popular but that doesnt fit into your requirements.

Smaller BMs with axis lock that might make a good office carry: 707, 930, 94x series, 525, 960, HK 14210 are all possibilities. A couple of good choices no longer in production are the 77x series and the 705; both can be found through secondary sources. A nice non-axis choice is the 690. The 77x series is one of the smallest axis lock knives available, they can be a bit hard to find but do show up from time to time in the for sale section.

my vote goes to the 960, or the 940 if it's not too large for you. I'm not sure if 960s can still be found for a decent price, but I'd go for that if so.

960 -- 3.125" blade
94x -- 3.4" blade
550 Grip -- 3.4" blade
in the sub-3" class:
707 Sequel
555/556 mini-Grip
525/527 mini-Presidio
14210 Snody
and new this year, 15030 -- 2.9" blade

I have a 555HG mini-Grip, and it is really nice. It alternates with my 585 mini-Barrage(AO) as my edc.

I recommend the 940, great knive for the office, also even though it's not an Axis lock the BM 10700 Nagara is a very nice knife.

Thanks for the quick responses. Y'all confirm my thoughts, I was leaning towards a Sequel or Mini-Presidio.

I suggest the 707 if you don't mind aluminum handles. I got my GF one and it is a really smooth opener, much smoother than my mini grip, and it is a small knife. I don't think you would want much smaller as it would be hard to hold and manipulate the lock.

Given your environment and concerns about bigger knives, I'd suggest the 707 Sequel over the 525. Even as a mini-, the 525 is a good sized knife. It's a good knife, but it'll be thicker and heavier than the 707.

Another vote for the 707. I EDC a 705 (the predecessor to the 707) and really like it. Lightweight, nice thin blade for slicing, small enough it won't alarm anybody, and it has the AXIS.

All good choices, but given your requirements, I'd join the recommendation to look hard at the 707. It's a great little knife.

My 940 does not draw much attention, and I love the size and feel of it.

I'm not really disagreeing with you, and I love the 940, but I've had a couple of people say (basically) "where did all that blade come from???" when the non-threatening 940 was opened. :D

940 if you are ok with the length of blade. 707 if you want a shorter blade

I love my 940 and 943. the 940 with green handle is a tiny bit less threatening than the 943s black handle... but I still get "are you a terrorist" and I work in a auto shop...why is everyone afraid of knives??? I guess only criminals carry knives... and if you have more than one knife you're definitely psycho... sorry about the mini rant

I just got a 707 Sequel last week and I can recommend it. The only thing I had an issue with was the pivot screw. It tended to loosen with my constant flicking open (not an uncommon issue with Benchmades I have read). I put some teflon tape on it to snug it up and keep it from moving.
