Ok, I'm attempting a scandi grind on 1/8" 1084. The angle per side is 12.5 degrees for a 25 degree inclusive angle. I'm using basically only hand tools. I was wondering how thin I can bring the edge before heat treat, usually the advice is about a dime's thickness, but since the idea of a scandi grind is no secondary bevel or at the very least a micro secondary bevel if I were to leave it the thickness of a dime it seems like it would be very hard to bring that down to a sharp edge with just files and sandpaper post-HT, any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

If you are sending out off to get it heat treated, you can probably take it all the waydown to sharp, then dull the blade with sand paper before you ship it off. Instruct them to use stainless foil to eliminate the de-carb and you'll probably be good. Keep in mind that I am a complete amateur, and my understanding of things may be completely wrong. If I'm wrong, someone please interject!

Stainless Foil + carbon steels don't mix well, they delay the cooling you get from the quenching oil to reach the blade and you get trapped in the pearlite nose (TTT Curve)

I would leave at least 1mm at the edge to be able to remove decarb after hardening.
