Recommendation Thread: high quality large fixed blade

You have some great options here. If you keep an eye on the exchange you could find a lightly used Busse Bushwhacker Mistress in your price range if your fast enough.
The Survive GSO 10 in 3v has really grown on me, its such a nice design, I really like it.

Scrap Yard 1311, or any of the large Scrapyard. In that price range you can add a custom Kydex from BuyBrown, Mashedcat, AZwelke etc and still be on budget.

I have seen Basic 11's go for your price range with a quality sheath! But, you gotta be fast!

Their steels and heat treatment are spot on. Warranty is fantastic and you can use them and they maintain value very well.

Some one mentioned Survive knives, I don't know what their big chopper is priced at on the 2nd market, but the original price and specs and steel puts it solidly in the roundhouse.

Update: I ended up picking up a Bark River Golok. After I started this thread I had more thoughts about what I was looking for and realized that what I wanted was something that could function as a compact machete but was still sturdy enough to do some batoning. Since I don't tend to do really heavy chopping work with my knives (I use a saw mostly) I figured I didn't need a blade designed for that purpose like the Grasso Bolo or a Khukri. It was a toss up between the Bark River Golok or the 1311 in the end but I could get the Golok a bit cheaper so I decided to save some money, I also like the fact that it comes with a full convex grind.

Thanks for all the advice guys and I'll post something about the blade once I have an opportunity to get out and use it a bit.
