I'm interested in a small double bit axe much like the Lee Reeves Nessmuk pictured a few threads down, but at a more affordable price. Hundred bucks or less. I'd prefer carbon steel.

Here are a couple of other options you may want to look into.

Condor

Marbles

I am sure there are others but these may get you started.

The Marbles are Chinese made, somewhat soft steel, and a number of people report problems with head retention. However, they are a fairly authentic looking Nessie configuration and you can also find positive reviews of them. If you can get one at a reasonably low price, what the heck.

You can also get on Reeve's wait list for the price of an e-mail if you think there's any reasonable chance you'll want to upgrade in a year or so.

Hmmmm. Wasn't aware of all that. Thanks DWK. I wonder if Condor is planning on adding any axes to their upcoming carbon steel line. Anyone have any info on this?

I don't know the answer but Joezilla, who is one of the Wilderness & Survival Skills forum moderators, is a big Condor rep and I'm sure he could answer that question. He's been showing a lot of prototypes of their new knives and machetes.
