Recommendations for a Light weight 3'' EDC

Under $40, light weight, very grippy g10,thin, 3 in. blade. Would go with the Cold Steel Holdout III.

Cold steel mini recon 1. Got one in my pocket right now. (3 inch blade limit at work) I carry the recon 1 XL most weekends. Cheap, tough as nails, weighs nothing.

Buck vantage line and Buck spiltfire.
both are 420hc but bucks 420hc holds a way better edge then aus8 and 8cr13mov
In my experience.

Another vote for the Spydie Delica. I don't personally own one but it's on my list. Blade might be a little too wide for your uses though, and a little over $40.

To be honest, I am a gun kinda guy. Honest though. I just purchased a Kershaw Zing for a cute bbq thing ( think Andrew Zimmern ). I hope it delivers. I sharpen all of my blades from kitchen to carry. When the steel sings to me.... My blades are sharp. I do not pay attention to all of the hype. I found a Japanese kitchen knife in the bushes two years ago while ago, and it begs for sushi. High carbon, and love. Thanks!

My 2 Sense. New to this forum, yet have been carrying a knife for many years. In around 2000, I bought a Benchmade Osbourne 942. Beautiful knife. 154cm blade. AXIS lock. I have owned many knives, including.... ask.

+1 for the delica. worth the extra 15 if you like how it feels. I really love that knife, and even at 55 or 60 it seems great value to me. Also I love the kershaw skyline. Two knives that are consistent favorites, surprise surprise...

Ok here I go again asking for recommendations.

(By the way to all of you guys who posted on my thread a few months ago, thanks much for your advice. Especially to those who suggested the RAT 1. I thought WHAT?? a liner lock seriously?? But I started looking at the reviews on youtube and they were all glowing, so I got one and really love it!! My RAT 1 now takes it's place among my Favorite EDC knifes.

OK now to the point of this post.
I generally carry 2 EDC knives most of the time, a 3 1/2'' blade for heavy duty cutting, and a 3'' for more delicate work. For a while my 3'' EDC has been the Kershaw Black Colt II. I like the blade shape for tip control and it can get in crevices where my bigger knife can't. I also like the polymer handles because they give me grip and control, and the lockup is solid. However for a small knife it weighs a ton in my pocket.

So here are my needs:
1. small enough and light enough to go in my pocket all day.
2. ergos that give me some grip on the knife - no metal handles.
3. a decent steel, preferably not 420 or 440, AUS8 or 8CR13MOV work fine.
4. long narrow tip such as a clip blade, invaluable for getting into small spaces.
5. preferably a lock back, a strong liner lock might work
6. I don't need to brake my bank, preferably under $40.00

Thanks for you're suggestions.

Everybody is different and has different needs. I would find this combination to be frustrating as the blades are too close in size for me. When I think small tight places, I think something like this.
Micra whittling by Pinnah, on Flickr

For me, the Micra is an excellent off-pocket companion for my larger EDC locking folder. The Micra opens up full length and in that mode is actually pretty comfortable for as much as I'm going to use the pen blade for. I also file the pen blade to something more like a wharncliff and find that really gets into nooks and crannies easily.

Of course, the other think the Micra does for me is it gives me a set of handy tools that in most cases prevent me from digging out my MT or other proper tools. The scissors are especially rugged and get used a lot.

If I were to carry a smaller locking folder to back up a bigger one, I think I would go smaller and maybe less tactical/modern so that it could be used in any situation. Small traditionals like the Buck 501 or 503 can make public appearances and wouldn't even upset an elderly 2nd grade school teacher. Another alternative along these lines would be something like a non-locking Alox SAK. Some tools. Very people friendly.
