Recommendations for a nice lady's watch

Hadn't thought of that. Have heard of other people doing it but hadn't crossed my mind for this one.

On the ither hand, as much as she likes it, it may be time to mix things up with a new one or two. Only "jewelery" she will wear.

I just came across Skagen on Joma Shop. Mineral Crystals.

But the size of one of the Skagens got me thinking, with a nod to your final point, how does she sample one in person?

Watch shops seem to have gone the way of pen shops or knife shops. Everything is online these days. We may be able to find some luxury watches at jewelers, maybe sample an Omega. Even with as many watches as department stores carry, it is tough to find the ones she is interested in.

Right now she is really leaning towards a Sinn, but the ones she wants would be special orders through watchbuys.com and no returns. No one carries them that I am aware of. At 34mm they are bigger than anything she has worn before. I can try to find something with the same case size for her to test, but that still won't tell her how the Sinn will feel overall and if anything, it may unduly set her against the Sinn if the test watch is ugly, heavy, different band etc. So for instance, there is a Skagen that looks close in size to the Sinn, but maybe it would be too light in comparison?

She is most definitely a hands on person and it is a very personal choice. We may be making do with the Tissot mentioned above for now and waiting for our next trip to Germany to pick up a Sinn if she likes it. Unless one magically pops up for her to try here, she doesn't want to spend that kind of money ordering something she may not like. Based on the complete lack of ladies Sinn watches on the secondary market, I'm guessing it would be hard to move without taking a hefty hit, if it would even resell.

Maybe I do just take a Sharpie and draw a watch face on her wrist...no, she deserves all the effort.
Non-returnable, untested item online? I’d pass on that scenario, especially if secondary market is non-existant.

Re: Hamilton. My friend had the crystal spontaneously crack. They replaced they whole thing (watch) for free.

So the other consideration is warranty and serviceability in the US.

Unloading it would be an issue if she didn’t like it, but the Sinn service and warranty is supposed to be great. They have service stateside. And i have to admit, I’m very partial to Sinn. I wouldn’t stop her from getting one, even with the risk of not liking it. She just has to get comfortable with that.

I too have similar issues watch hunting with my wife. The majority of women's watches seem to be lower end or really overdone. Size is a big issue as well. My wife likes larger watches (40-45) but not manly larger watches.

I bought her a skagen that she likes, but it takes scratches rather easily. We are just waiting for it to return from a trip for a new movement and crystal. It's cost nearly half of what we paid for the watch. In retrospect we should have just purchased a different one.

I'm also on the hunt for a quality low maintenance watch for my wife, so I'd be interested to hear what you and your wife pick.

She went with a Sinn 434 from WatchBuys.com, the only authorized US retailer.

My review:

"Worth it in every way"

Verified Owner Comments: First off, customer service leading up to the purchase of the 434 was exceptional. They let us know the special order options and were prompt and courteous in their communications.

My wife was looking for a nicer watch but was torn between something fancier for special occasions and something she could wear daily for any situation. Our only concern apart from trim options was size as this is on the larger side diameter wise for ladies watches. WB made sure we were aware of their generous return policy and suggested if the size was wrong or we wanted to special order a different one, we could return the one they had on hand.

No need to return. Pictures online can't do it justice.

Understated elegance and beauty. While the watch face is bigger, the watch is very thin and light overall. The face makes for easy reading and the watch is unobtrusive on the wrist. I thought my wife would want a bracelet as that is what she has always had, but she has been enjoying how light and thin the leather band is. She would always take her watches with bracelets off before when she was typing or home for the night, but the 434 stays on. Huge plus there. Presentation box, like the watch itself was nice and understated. Quality of the watch, probably goes without saying, is impeccable. The sapphire crystal and the Swiss HAQ were important factors for us. The watch is not flashy, which is what she wanted. It catches the eye with a simple understated beauty of quality and craftsmanship. Nothing out of place on this one.

My wife may very well end up with a second 434 with the gold trim or diamonds for fancier occasions and just have two because she likes it so much, but for now she is really enjoying this one because she can wear it in any situation. To anyone on the fence, give it a try.

To that I would add, now that she has spent more time with it, the strap is a bit large diameter wise. Another review on the website commented there is a small diameter strap available that you can request. The one it came with fits my wife but is on one of the last holes. Also, the spacing of the holes on this one is such that it is either a little loose or a little too tight. I have offered to get her a different strap, but so far, she has been happy with it a bit loose. Also since that review, she has commented she doesn't want one of the gold or diamond versions, she really prefers this one for the understated beauty.

Very eye catching piece and so far no scratches which has been a problem with every other watch she has owned.

I'm no photographer, and as I said in my review, pics don't do it justice. It's really eye catching in person.
