Recommendations for knife for use in military

Don't worry about lubrication, with that desert sand any oil in the mechanism can gunk up the lock and pivot since it's open to air. Absolute smoothness isnt really an issue where you're going, I think of it as something that we civilians are spoiled by. I recommend the knife a forumite sent you, or a spyderco military with no lubrication. The teflon/nylotron/whatever material the washers are made of lubricate themselves well enough that any sort of oil is really just icing. If you ever do need to clean it, a toothbrush or whatever and tapwater/solvent will get what you need done, and won't harm the knife.

A fixed blade would not be so easy to break, but a folder is nice sometimes,I only carry one for political rightness when I go into town other wise I carry a good size fixed blade and a leatherman wave.I have used the original leatherman and gerbers and they both pinch the palm of the hand when cutting heavy wire but the wave does not, also the blades are liner locks which hold very well and have never unlocked on mine under a work load. The saw really works as well as the other tools mine was 70$ but well worth it.
