Hello all,

I’m new to the forums here so forgive me if this is posted in the wrong sub forum. I tried several searches but only found discussions on tip up vs tip down. I’m hoping for some recommendations for knives with tip down carry. I like to carry in my back right pocket and a tip down option places the spine against the right seam and still allows for convenient access for opening upon presentation.

I am already aware of all of the Spyderco models that offer this configuration and they make up the bulk of my collection, but I would like to branch out a bit. Thanks in advance for any leads!

Like mentioned above, most folders will have the option to switch it from tip up to tip down. If you find a knife that you want, but doesn’t have the option to switch the clip, you could find or make handle scales that have a drilled in section for the clip. So really there’s no knife best designed strictly for tip down (to be fair I’m sure there’s a couple) but it’s whatever knife you like and want and then configure to your needs, your options are limitless!

Just about any fixed blade fits that parameter. ;)

Seriously, gonna need a bit more info. Budget? Blade/overall length? Steel preference? Flipper? Thumbstud? Spydie hole?
Up to $300. Blade length 2.5 inch to 3.5 inch. Quality steel of any type. Thumbstud and Spydie hole are both great.

Kershaw blur is usually tip down, but most knives you can switch so it shouldn't be much of an issue.
Thanks for the rec. Can you point me to any other non-Spydercos that offer tip down? To the best of my knowledge they aren’t offered by the vast majority of manufacturers. ZT, Benchmade, Protech, Bestech, CRK, Lionsteel (they offer one and I own it), Fox and all of the other Maniago makers, QSP, Civivi, WE, and so many others have no option for tip down.

The world is your oyster.

Just about EVERY major manufacturer offers knives in that price range and size. And as mentioned, the majority of them have the scales tapped at both ends to allow tip up or tip down configuration.

Take a look at Zero Tolerance, Benchmade, as well as Kizer and Civivi and Reate.

I don’t mean to sound like an idiot (though I most assuredly am) but I never seem to see these brands tapped for both. I will have to do some more looking it would seem. Thanks! I know ZT has a few, but it seems to be very few. I realize it isn’t a particularly popular carry method so I suppose I have my work cut out for me.

You can easily swap the clip on most folders to fit your preference.

Everyone saying "most" knives can be switched to the correct (tip-down) clip position - this isn't even remotely true!! Aside from Spyderco's 4-way clip models, MOST folders DO NOT have a tip-down option, and it's a cryin' shame.

Kershaw Blur is a great recommendation. Only other one I can think of is the Microtech Socom, but I've been unsuccessfully trying to find one in stock for a couple years now...

I’ve been carrying a Kershaw Leek tip-down for years. Most of the guys in our shop carried them. I feel like they’re the boring, obvious choice, but they just work. I think mine came set up that way but they are reversible.

I think your best bet would be Benchmade. I've been a Spyderco fan for awhile so I'm not current on knowledge of what Benchmade makes these days.

My Microtech SOCOM Elite is the only dedicated tip-down folder I still own. Like the Spyderco Military, it's perfect in that it puts my hand just where I want it when I pull the knife out of my pocket.

Strong detent on mine, too. No way it's coming open by accident.
