Hey, all. I'm determined to learn to sharpen my knives, but until I get around to it, I'd like to find a good place to send my babies to get them popping sharp.

Thanks for any references.......

Send 'em to the Sharpmaker! I have NO skill and can maintain a knife enough to shave hair from that thing... truly just take your knife, make it straight, and go down.

Probably a maker on here though, might do it up proper for you.

Thanks, I'll take a look at it.

Sharpmaker is excellent and not that expensive. I also own a wicked edge, that was a very expensive Christmas present given to me that I would have never bought myself, and it’s awesome as well. I use the sharpmaker the most for day to day though.

The Sharpmaker was my first decent sharpener. And since I started with Spyderco (besides the SAK's that I alreado owned), i thought it would be appropiate.

As others have stated, it is a nice tool to maintain edges. But once the edges are too damaged, unless you buy the additional (not included with the standar kit) diamond coated rods... it doesn't remove enough metal (in a reasonable amount of time, that is).

I would pair the Sharpmaker with a loaded strop for general touch ups and buy a guided system with diamond hones to do a more aggresive grinding if you chip an edge. I own the RUIXIN PRO RX-008 and I am quite happy with it.

I always thought that sharpening is something that goes along with owning (and enjoying knives)... unless you are looking for a regrind... I encorage you to learn to do it yourself!

Mikel
