I previously purchase a hardened steel file guide from an established supplier but when it came in I noticed that no matter how much I tried to align the 2x surfaces they wouldn't line up. With that said I had a friend from work grind the guide square. Sadly though we must have ground off the hardened material because my files are now removing material from the guide.

With that said I am now back in the marker for a new file guide. :/ I have seen several variations out there with carbide guides guides on the market and any recommendations for a particular supplier would be greatly appreciated.

Regards.

I have one from uncle Al's and am happy with it.
But if I were to buy one now I'd go for one made by Bruce Bump. (just to get something with his makers mark :))

They arn't cheap but I wouldn't want to do without one

Bump seems to be the most popular but I have one from Bill Behnke that was 75 dollars. It's aluminum with carbide inserts. I like it but it's the only one I've used.

Mr. Bumps' is the best purchase I've made in my knifemaking endeavor. Wish I would've done it sooner and it supports another maker. Winning on all levels.

Thank you everyone for the recommendations. It looks like I'll be reaching out to Mr. Bump :)

others may be great, but from what i can tell Bruce's sets the standard... wish i got mine years earlier as well.

May I "pile on" please? I have two, the best by far being a Bruce Bump guide. My other one does have thumb wheels with "Allen sockets" which is nice . I may swap the parts . Spend he extra money for a fine tool like this...my opinion again...but I'm in good company! Larry
