Recommendations for propane forge temp gauge?

Woodwrkr221, do you have it constantly inserted in the forge or just occasionally?

The ceramic sheath is permanently mounted in the center of the rear of the forge the same way the burner is mounted in my Zoeller style forge. When the forge is cooled off and I need to put it away i pull the probe out of the ceramic sheath and put the forge and probe/thermometer away separately.

Be careful with the ceramic stuff, I broke one sheath and had to replace it.

Gotcha, thanks! One last question. How is the ceramic cover secured into the forge and how far in?

The nose of the ceramic sheath is maybe an inch or two shy of being in the center of the forge.

You can weld a pipe that is larger than the tube to the forge shell just like a burner mount (1" pipe works well). Place the tube in it to the right depth and mortar it in place with satanite. Some folks just pack it tight with kaowool/inswool. A little satanite on the inner and outer rim takes care of keeping the wool in place.

I just stick the tip of it in the back door of the forge. The thermocouples only read the temp on the last inch or so of the couple. I don't have it in a ceramic sheath or anything. I just keep it outta the flame path and it works fine. Just order the one from omega that Ed suggests. He said his only last him about 6 months but he uses his welding forge wayyyy more than most of us do.
