Hello forum members!

I have a few questions this time, not a sale post, but couldn't figure out a better place on the forum to post this.

I have created this thread some time ago
https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...gy-laboratory-for-sale.1597062/#post-18239043
but it looks like no one here is interested in these knives.

I wanted to ask for some recommendations on how can I sell these knives, where, what's the best way to do it, is there something I'm doing wrong?

I would appreciate any recommendations or advice.

this is just my opinion. you are very new and right off you have expensive knives for sale. you have zero feedback. it appears that you are not in the USA.

Bladesmith, thank you for your reply.
Do you mean feedback as a seller or as a forum member?

And I actually live in Minnesota. Where does it "appear" that I'm not in the US?

Possible reasons they are not selling:

1: They are expensive. People do pay $760 for knives fairly often, but ...

2: They aren't a well known brand. I couldn't find anything on this model knife when I googled for it.
First search result is to your For Sale post, second goes to a Russian site that my antivirus program said tried to infect my computer.
No reviews or any mention of these Carson fixed blade knives anywhere.
If people can't compare your prices (especially when we are talking expensive knives like this) to others to see what the value is, they are unlikely to buy them. Especially online where they can't handle the knives in person to check out the quality. Your pictures look good, but that's not enough when you are talking about $760 knives.

3: What info there is on Carson Technology Laboratory indicates it is Chinese.
Chinese manufacturers have been making some great knives lately, I've had a few myself, but they also have a reputation for cheaper knockoff knives with 'mystery steels'.
I imagine Carson Technology Laboratory makes some nice knives. I seem to recall seeing a review for a folder they made a while back that was pretty good, but they just don't have enough of a presence yet to get most people to drop $700 on a knife from them.

I am not familiar with the brand or the proper pricing of the brand, but not everything sells quickly or well on this site.. If there is a limited audience for the product it can take awhile, if you can get it to sell at any price. The real popular & in trend stuff sells quickly, stuff that isn't doesn't. Then after you have about given up 2 people may want to buy within 5 minutes. It can be weird.

Good points made by the three folks above. My .02... we don't know you.
1) You haven't been here long.
2) You haven't posted anywhere except this F/S thread.
3) You have expensive knives that many have not heard of before.

None of this is a knock on you. It's us being overly cautious because we've been dealing with some shady characters and other issues in the F/S area lately. Just hang around, join some conversations and post in the discussion areas of BF, let us get to know you a bit, and be patient.

If you really need a quick sale on these, I'd try one of the dealers that buys and sells... somebody like Arizona Custom Knives or Ft Henry or A G Russell.

I've never heard of this brand of knives before. It's not really my cup of tea, although there are lots of people for whom it is. You're certainly welcome here, but even if this was the kind of knife I was interested in, I'd be very reluctant to buy an expensive knife of an unknown brand from a brand-new member who has only posted in sale-related threads.

Another avenue is Facebook,Instagram which have a wider audience that maybe interested.

I looked at the original sales thread and was put off by:

1) unknown maker and is this a custom? Just seemed very expensive for an unknown, to me, quality
2) new member, expensive knives with no history here

Reading this thread I learned these are made in China and are most likely factory knives, not made by an individual.

I want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who posted on this thread. All of the above are really good points, and in the next couple of days I will review the description of my selling thread and add changes suggested by you. I will add more info about the brand itself, some links, maybe something to proof quality, etc. Also will do my best to participate more in other threads.

After reading all of these replies, I have a couple of questions about pricing:
If the current price looks like too much, what would you suggest as a good price?
What price sounds fair, and what price will help me to actually sell these?

I would really appreciate any input. Thanks!

It's obvious the first listing price is too high, start dropping the price until you get a bite. The price will depend on whether anyone is willing to pay your asking price. Some knives that are listed here just do not sell and people find other places to try and sell them. Honestly, I wouldn't have a clue what a fair price would be. I have seen knives go for less than half of what was paid for them. If you just want to dump them, go extremely cheap. Otherwise, be patient and they will sell eventually.

I think this is just a brand level problem. You're trying to sell an expensive item that nobody knows about.

Are you associated with this company?

I think they need to build up some reputation before they are going to have much success selling knives this expensive. They need to generate some hype.

Send some knives to reviewers with large followings.

Start with less expensive knives. People are more willing to try an unknown manufacturer if they aren't going to be out $700 if the product turns out to be crap.

Make sure those cheaper knives are very good. To the point perhaps where you aren't making money off of them. The point is to build up your rep.

To that end, you have to be active in the various communities. Here, Reddit, Instagram. Where ever else. Show up at knife shows so people can see your knives.

Having an address in the US where customers can return knives with issues would also help. Let people know that you aren't some fly by night operation.

If you're not associated with Carson and are just trying to sell three knives you happen to have, then you have to decide what they are worth to you.

If a new knife is 25% to 35% less than the standard internet price, an interested buyer might take a chance at getting a good deal with a new member
A member with great feedback, may be able to sell at only 15% to 20% less.
Rare and out of production knives can usually sell for original cost or with an added premium.
Selling knives is a tough way to make money, but they do have a liquid value, it’s just usually way lower than what you paid.

Unknown brand, unusual design, strange steel + high price= Not much interest.

If they were desirable the price wouldn't matter. I've never seen the brand before, the design is odd and it's pimping a steel no one ever heard of.

I saw some.previously sold at Arizona custom knives website. You may try to selling or putting them on consignment there. I had to Google for information on the company.and knives never had heard of them before. I can't speak for anyone else and not all knives appeal to everyone. For me the design of the products, being made in China and price would not interest me
