Hello All!

First off, thank you very much to those that take the time to respond to questions from makers on this forum. That is much appreciated! Thank you very much for that.

Second, is that I have a question regarding stencils. I would like to begin etching my mark instead of hand engraving all the time. Can someone point me in the direction of a stencil supply house that will allow me to make my own stencils, hopefully with just the use of my standard ink-jet printer and whatever chemicals/tools that may be needed otherwise?

Any help here is greatly appreciated, thank you!

I have used Ernie's stencils and TUS stencils. Both are great. I used to make my own etching solution, but when I ordered a bottle of ACTUAL etching solution, the results were WAY better.

Electromark, in my opinion, makes the best stencils. Even though Patricia is a Rangers fan, she's good people. You should easily get 40-50 stencils on a single sheet. Some stencil places only want to put 8-10 on a sheet. Prepare your sheet wisely, put numbers 1-100, multiple copies of your logo in both large and small sizes, steel types, your kid's names, Merry Christmas, etc. Just really pack it on there and cover what you don't want to use with tape. The last stencil I used was 1/4" x 1/2" surrounded with 1/2" scotch tape.

+ 1 on T.U.S and Jan is a great guy to work with. Here is an example using a TUS stencil that I just recorded today.

WOW!! Thank you all so very much! I'm gonna give a few of these folks a shot and pick the vendor that makes the best application for me. But man, THANK YOU for so much feed back and help! Didn't expect all that....

Another vote for TUS! Email Jan... she will help you figure out exactly what you need and will let you know how small they can be and still turn out. I tried Ernie, and I know others have had a great experience w/ Ernie but I didn't (unfortunately) and won't be back. TUS is fantastic to work with.

Agreed, except Jan is YAHNN, and is a he, not a she. :)

Man I'm glad to know that! Who woulda thought! I have only worked w/ him on stencils twice but never actually spoken over the phone. Thanks for letting me know.

Not familiar w/ "YAHNN"?

Not sure if he's German, or Austrian... But my point was his name is pronounced YAHNN. :)

Wicked good guy.

yep, tried the others..These gave better results by a good bit..

I use stencils from TUS and Marking Methods and both are super. I use solution # 94 for etching from IMG in Utica, New York. Just my opinion but most guys like the stencils they get from various sources... but the equipment and etching solutions vary in quality. I get good etches from a "Personalyser Plus" unit and # 94 etchant. Larry
