Recommendations: ludt or Benchmade or?

My two faves are Randall's and MT. I don't have a problem using my Ultratech-85. Haven't even cut air with my LUDT or M-UDT yet. Also having recently attended a custom knife show, where I met Mr. Marfione I can see way more expensive custom MT's coming out. I hope it doesn't get out of control. Ebay prices are crazy already. Beware of fake OTF's. Benchmade is awesome too. Right now I favor MT.

I have looked at some of the Benchmade but I can't seem to get as good of a deal with military discount from them as I do from microtech. I can get the ludt for $187 but most of the Benchmade are about the same price as I can get from online retailers. The protechs look good as well but something just draws me toward the ludt since I can get it in m390

Don't just follow price, follow your gut. There is not a massive difference in cost here so pick what you will enjoy. Watch a few more YouTube videos on each and you should be all set.

Benchmade AFO II

I have the tanto partially serrated version with black coated blade. It has been through heck and all types of weather and has never let me down. I find the strike pommel to be INCREDIBLY useful for tasks you wouldn't want to subject your blade to.

IMO, the AFO II is worth every penny of its MSRP price, but you can always find a deal if you look hard enough!

Just my $0.02

A fan of autos, I like the LUDT, but my favorite auto knife is the Spyderco auto model Citadel. It comes in either 83 or 92mm blade length, and is out of production now but can still be found if you look around. It has an easy to use locking feature, nice when in the pocket, and a very grippy handle.

Just a thought.

I EDC a Spyderco Gayle Bradley which is as tough or tougher than the Citadel without any restrictions on where it can be carried which can be an issue with automatic knives.

Listen to the snap in the video when the knife opens. I like that sound!

Hate to resurrect an old post But just in case someone else is considering the above comparison. Military/LEO retired. I own all the above. I've owned the original AFO and now the AFO II. I own the original LUDT and the new LUDT. I also own the Protech TR4. All of them are perfect fit and finish. I've had good luck with customer service from all of the players.
You won't go wrong with any of those choices. It's really what blade design speaks to you. Ergonomics are also a consideration. AFO and TR4 are bigger handles. Tr3 and LUDT are smaller. I haven't noticed hot spots on any of them. SOCOM Elite is large as well.
