I like thin. I prefer a two handed opener (sorry don't know what they are called)... kind of how a SAK needs to be opened. Small blade, under 4" for sure. I love carbon fiber, but its not a must.

Not really aware of too many fitting the bill. Thoughts of the experienced people here is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The nicest and smoothest knife I've seen in a long time is the AG Russell "Solingen Swing Guard." Not available in plastic handles though, only beautiful classy natural materials. ;)

Lots of knives out there to choose from. You might start by browsing the selection at Cumberland Knife Works and selecting a pattern that you find appealing.

Happy Shopping,

i think you're referring to what we call a slipjoint. A traditional folder.

Go back to A.G.Russell and put "gentleman' into the Search function (at the upper right). You will get a long list of knives to look over, which should give you a better idea of what looks good. Many of them are quite expensive, but not all.

Applejacks- if you like simple beauty, check out a small sebenza or mnandi by Chris Reeve.

What you were talking about originally is a slipjoint (I think). Check out the traditional knives part here on BladeForums.

Do you have a price range, a blade preference, or a steel preference?

Esav mentioned Queen- if you buy one, make sure to have a coarse bench stone and be ready to do some reprofiling of the edge. Otherwise, they're great knives at a good prices. They have nice D2 tool steel, come in all sorts of materails, and other than the edge, have great fit and finish.

Thank you. I definitely don't want plastic handles. I will look into the Russell, which is an awesome recommendation considering I love the Featherlite... and on the Cumberland site... that I was not aware of.

Ahh, thanks. Slipjoint, got it. I am doing the search right now. Thank you!

I own a Sebenza now. I considered a Mnandi, but I don't know... something about it, just isn't right for me.

Thanks, will check out that section.

Price range... I am pretty flexible. I'd like to keep it under $350 or so. Blade or steel type doesn't really matter to me. I am gonna use it for light duty work, if that.

I have no experience with sharpening, but am looking into a Sharpmaker. Hopefully that is easy enough. haha

Thanks for all the help.

The sharpmaker is easy to use, but it's no match for the blunt edge in D2 that the Queen will come with.

As far as knives go- A.G. Russell is definitely your place. Their slip joint selection is full of great knives.

Oh, gotcha. I didn't know that about the D2. I like the Premium Scout, but it seems like a knife for a young boy scout? It would just be a supplementary, not the knife I am getting in this search.

I just came across a Mel Pardue Model 330. Looks really nice, but seems impossible to get now.

I was making light of your earlier stated preference for "carbon fiber," which sounds like plastic to me. ;)

In this case "scout" refers to the knife pattern; it's not an official Boy Scout knife.

Best Wishes,

Buck makes some great Limited Editions if they fit your desire.

I carry a small Custom from them daily. Stag with some file work, very nice and classic.
