Recommendations on Gentleman folder please.

Moki makes some very high quality gentleman's lockbacks. They are the ones who made the William Henry Spire.

I was making light of your earlier stated preference for "carbon fiber," which sounds like plastic to me. ;)

In this case "scout" refers to the knife pattern; it's not an official Boy Scout knife.

Best Wishes,

Hahaha, whoops.

Oh, didn't know that. I think I have to have one now. Thanks.

If you like carbon fiber, slender and sleek, I'd look into Klotzli if you haven't already. Swiss made, extremely high tolerances. If I can dig up a picture of mine I'll post it. Will run you about $200.

Edited: Here we go...

I like thin. I prefer a two handed opener (sorry don't know what they are called)... kind of how a SAK needs to be opened. Small blade, under 4" for sure. I love carbon fiber, but its not a must.

Not really aware of too many fitting the bill. Thoughts of the experienced people here is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I do not think you read my post so I will repeat myself here.

You want a knife under 4 inches, and thin.

Like mentioned earlier check out the Spyderco Military at New Graham Knives. Nice & thin, carbon fiber handle and 4 inches. Maybe just a bit longer than you want but it is a nice knife.

Queen popped up some and I know they have some nice D2 slip-joint knives. I am ordering the D2 "Teardrop" pattern today ... I like those old patterns ... Also the small sodbuster is nice with the handle material that seems to be in your range ... (I got one) ... check it out ...

Hmm.., odd, but the Spyderco Military I have is almost 5 1/2" long closed, nothing small about it. Its not a "gentlemans" knife by any means either, strictly a tactical pocket sword. Not that thats a problem, but its not what the original question was about.

I have one of those, its got issues. Not quality issues,
it looks nice and all, but there are design problems. The backspring has a rise in the middle to accommodate the center pin, and the blade hits it when it snaps closed causing a sizeable flat spot in the edge.
On that note, I have a few recent Queen made knives that are sub-par. Weak springs, quality control, design issues, etc. They do look nice, but not really up to regular use I think.

If you are looking for more traditional type folder, try asking here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=773. Lots of pictures and info on what you want there.

How about a one or two layer SAK with custom scales? I have a Waiter model that I'm getting re-scaled with carbon fiber very soon, for this very purpose. Cost is minimum... $15 for the SAK, $10 for the scales, and probably $20-$35 for the work by someone who is experienced in custom scales. Around $50 for a semi-custom gentleman's knife that'll last a lifetime!

Id look into a custom if you want a real traditional folder, some nice one selling on the maker section under folders. worth a look

You know Todd Davision makes some amazing slip joints! Check the makers for sale forum.

Arathol, the Queens I do have do not really have any "design issues" that I have noticed (nothing obvious anyway) and a couple of the more recently purchased ones that I have carried A LOT have been used sucessfully. I appreceate the heads up on the spring issue with the teardrop pattern D2 ... that is good ta' know ... I don't need a blade with a flat spot ...

Gentleman folder... it has to be a Chris Reeve Mnandi or a William Henry. To me those are the ultimate Gentlemen Folders. Style and quality.

I'd go for a Damascus model.

Thanks. Didn't want to cross post, but will check it out more in depth.

I thought about getting that done on a SAK too. But unfortunately, I have no idea where to go to get it done.

Was just a bit worried about the whole custom thing. Not really sure why. Just didn't like walking into something blind, if you will. Thanks.
