recommended sharping system for a beginner

Hi Guys....I was wondering if I could use the Spyderco Sharpmaker on a bunch of survival knives and machetes i just bought when it comes time to sharpen them..........most are made of 1095 carbon with a 20 degree edge angle.......Ka-bar Kukri Machete Knife(11-1/2" blade),ONTARIO OKSP8 Spec Plus Machete/Survival(10" blade),ONTARIO OKSP10 Spec Plus Marine Raider Bowie(10" blade),KA-BAR 1245 Black Tanto Fixed Blade Knife(8" blade),Ka-bar #1218 U.S.M.C. Serrated Fighting Knife(7" blade),KA-BART 1247 Black Warthog Fixed Blade Knife(5-3/8" blade),and OFFICIAL GLOCK MILITARY KNIFE w/ROOT SAW BLADE 81(6-3/8" blade)............If not could you recomend something else I could use..........TY in advance.

The spyderco sounds decent or better.

My question applies to sharpening large knives. For example my Busse Fusion Steel Heart.

I've had good success freehand sharpening other knives (such as my fixed blade Buck knives) with my gatco three stone sharpener, but difficulty with the Busse. I know I should be able to get it sharper than I have.

I'm thinking the stone could be too soft, or I'm not finding the sweet angle
required for this thicker blade?

The spyderco looks like a reasonable solution?
Any Busse-fan testimonials?

Definately it would work fine!

However for my machete and axes I use the double sided aluminum oxide 6" x 2" whetstone that I got at the hardware store for about $5. I'm not looking for a "perfect" cutting edge and the courseness of the edge is fine for these tools for the jobs I use them on.

The nice part about the Sharpmaker is that is takes knives of all different sizes and blade thicknesses. However a machete is stretching it since you use one hand to hold down the tool and the other to draw the blade across it and unless you are a pro basketball player I don't think you can reach with the machete. I sharpen the dragon lady's kitchen knives including the big carving blades with ease.

If you have some extra bucks get an x-course or course DMT diamond whetstone (the best of the diamond sharpeners) and get/make a hone/strop for getting rid of the "BURR".
