I've been toying with the idea of a new auto just for kicks but in all actuality a small, fixed blade knife might fit my needs. I would carry at work so I am thinking 2-3" blade max with a decent holster. Would like to keep it under $200. Any suggestions?

For that size of knife in the 200.00 range you could find some great custom fixed blades, probably even in demascus. I bought a three inch blade with 512 layer demascus and bone handles for 125.00 at a knife show.

We have a lot of great makers here, so check out the knife makers section. I am sure that you could find something that would suit youy needs.

Welcome to BF!

The top knife, "CRKT Ringed Razel" might fill the bill. I like mine and never stop being amazed at how handy it is. 2.75" blade and 7.5" O/A. The sheath is a preference thing, but the low cost of the knife itself (around $70.00) would let you get a custom leather or kydex to your liking.

I think the RC3 or the Izula would fit the bill. They can be had for well under the $200 mark and make for some really great users.

With that price range, you could definitely look at this Forums' Makers FB section & probably get exactly what you're looking for.

If not, a few come to mind. One of the micro Bark River knives (Canadian, Slither, etc.), Mykel Morris (His custom file knives AND his kydex sheaths are very nice), & the BM 210 or 211 Activators comes to mind (I believe the 210's the S30V model & the 211's the D2 model, both are 5.5" OAL with a 2 1/8" blade).

Good luck with whatever you get.

When I think "small fixed blade" I grab my Landi PSK. If you're not looking for something that small, also look at his MPS.

You could also look at a RC-3 or Izula from RAT Cutlery.

RAT RC-3!

They're light, have a nice broad drop point blade, perfectly balanced, and just the right size to carry.

I would (and did, just a few weeks ago) buy a RAT RC-3 and an Izula, that way you have a small and smaller carry fixed blade.

Thanks thus far for all the recommends. I am indeed looking for a very small knife maybe even 5" or so overall. Don't want to freak out fellow employees as they already think I am a bit odd when I pull out my 1.75" auto! :D

A touch longer, get a Benchmade Nim Cub II. Very nicely done.

Second that recommendation on Michael Morris knives, 5-6" overall masterpieces, under $100.

200 dollars . Check out the customs. JK will make one to your specs . He has a small one available right now that a customer changed his mind on.

Another vote for both Michael Morris and John Kiedaisch. And don't overlook Blind Horse Knives; especially their patch and Workcliffe knives. Shoot, for $200 you can get a top end custom made knife from each one. And, unlike other custom makers, you may wait a couple of weeks, not months.

When I think of small fixed blades, I think of Gene Ingram & Charles May. My favorite small knife is the Gene Ingram Pocket Hippo.

These would be superb choices!

For production - bark river micro-canadian or PSK. Rat Izula is 6.25" overall and 2.5" blade. It is a very sleek and thin profile that will not print in the front pocket of a pair of casual pants. Thats how I wear mine.

Good luck. If you are really looking at spending $200 then you should go the custom route. Crump has some nice, traditional little ones with interesting patina patterns on them also.

What would you get from those knifes that the f-1 lacks?

The f1 is too big for the application indicated - it has a 3.8" blade and is more suited as a belt knife. The WMN model by fallkniven could be an option for the size asked. My guess is that the OP wants a really nice knife rather than a utilitarian one based on the upper cost provided.
