I recommend the X2 Voyager.
While I'm a big fan of other brands (for example, my collection consists mainly of Spydercos, as you'll see from my posts on Mr. Glesser's forum), it's hard to find a knife of the size of a Voyager for anywhere near its priceline.
The cutting performance is excellent, and while I've not had experience with the new VG1 stainless, it seems similar in composition to many of the other stainless varieties used on the market (like the AUS-8A used on mine). The lock is strong---you can't just press directly on it with a finger tip, you have to roll your thumb across it to get enough pressure to disengage. It's lightweight for a six-inch blade (and even for a typical four-inch one), and the handle is very comfortable.
All politics and hyped-up advertising aside, the Voyager series from Cold Steel is a helluva product. The locks are bank-vault solid (I wouldn't doubt that their strength equals that of their so-called "Ultra Lock") and the knives offer big blades for not a whole lot of cash or weight.
Essentially, with the X2 you get a time-tested lock, two more inches of blade, and a classic design for less money and the same weight.
God bless.
