Recommendation? Recon 1 vs Large Voyager

I like the Voyager handle better, way better ergo's. It's wider/thicker and so gives less discomfort when say cutting wood or other tough materials. The comfort of a knife handle is sometimes underrated, not given enough importance to it. An uncomfortable handle is a no-no for me.
The grivory on the Voyager is crazy tough. A cold chisel smashed against the side of the handle didn't put a dent into it(crazy test but someone has to do it).
Won't even think about doing that to the G10..

I see. I guess I was referring to its ability to remain intact, more than its cosmetic appearance thereafter.

I have more than a few of both models and I probably carry the Voyager series more often.

Past two days had a Medium Voyager Tanto in my pocket but Monday it was a Spear Recon1.
Both type knives are great hard use work knives.

Man, both knives are darn good.

The Voyager has a couple of things that I think make the Recon a better value.

The liners trap moisture, and the handle texture really traps dirt, and makes it difficult to clean. I have to use toothpicks to clean out the grime and dirt.

That said, the Voyager has a thinner blade, and seems to cut a bit better.

If I had to pick one, it would be the Recon 1. Thank goodness I don't, so I have both. In multiples....lol!

The Spyderco Bushcraft G10 I had didn't look that good after impact..

I forgot to mention that you can probably sand out the blemish easily enough. Just do it under running water so you can prevent the dust from going airborne.

I use a toothbrush and soap and water. The Voyager is my knock around knife(cheaper steel too) and the Recon is my nicer carry knife(CTS XHP) and at 4" is necessary in some locales. I do like the 5.5" Voyager rather than a 4" Blade.

It's already quite a few years ago , so I haven't got the Spyderco Bushcraft anymore. The grivory handle of the Voyager was amazingly tough. I would rate it higher than the G10 actually. It may look 'cheap' to some. But I don't see the higher beauty of the G10 personally. Tastes differ ... G10 is a fine handle material also ofcourse.

Sanding, with sandpaper I assume? Yes, I read that G10 particles are very 'evil' to the lungs. Not wanting that. Hence the running water..

For what it’s worth, I have many g10 recon 1s and grivory voyagers, and the only one that has suffered a crack was an xl grivory voyager.

I agree grivory is tough stuff.

How did the grivory suffered the crack.
I just noticed it one day, not sure. It was on the end of the handle distal from the pivot and was about 1 inch long. I used a type of super glue to fix it. Still have it as a beater knife and it works great.

I understand. Sometimes the cause is not easy to trace back , if at all.
Super glue does work wonders.
I saw a video where a guy did some destruction test on a Mora Companion carbon.
The tang loosened up from the handle, it came out. He used loctite and it seemed to do fine after it again.
