Anyone bought from Recon1? Never dealt with them so just wanted to know if they are recommended?

I have once, a couple of years back. It was for a Pro Tech Tr3 Manual Integrity Folder. I live in Japan and had no problems. Good communication and fast shipping. I've contacted them a few times since about items, but decided against due to price. Items there can be quite expensive. But yeah, I would recommend them. Though, you might contact them and get a feel for how they do things through their response.

This is my local knife shop. I love this shop for it's selection and for the service I get from Sako and his sister Tamar. I have to laugh when I see people say they're overpriced. I have bought knives from them exclusively since finding them and I have never paid more than the Blade HQ price...usually less. Also, if there's something you want (production or custom) that you don't see on the website, call and they will get it for you if it can be found.

I highly recommend Recon 1.

No offense intended....I was referring to his listing for custom knives. They do tend to be on the pricier side....I've never purchased a production knife from him so I can't speak to that side of his business.

:) No offense taken. Thank you for the clarification, I see we were talking about two different sides of the store. I've bought nothing but production knives from them so far (8 in the past 3 months) and received great deals. There's a couple of customs I'm considering right now and I can tell you from conversations I've had with Sako that he is willing to discount the customs as well but the amount of the discount he can take varies widely from maker to maker.

Their customer service and delivery is A class, you won't have a problem. But, like others have said the custom prices are pretty high even after negotiations. I won't buy from these knife purveyors anymore because they are a part of driving up the prices on customs. They go to the shows and pick up the lotteries & open bids to sell them for premium markup. That's just commerce and they can do what they want, I'm just taking a stand not to buy from them anymore.

Is this https://recon1.shop the website, or this is fraud? Thanks

I believe this thread is about recon1.com.

I also believe that the site you linked- "recon1.shop" is a scam site. There's no way I believe they have all those knives, or that they would sell them at such low prices. Their prices are incredibly low, far lower than other legitimate websites.

Sako and Recon 1 are first class. Also they are highly involved in the knife community on various levels; much support to both makers and suppliers. They also sponsor a knife show or two a year here in CA

BTW prices are negotiable ;)

I've done some business with R1 over the years and I'd mirror pretty much all that's been said.
Great communication.. quality selection of production and custom ones.
Price on productions is right on par with other online retailers.
Returns of knives will set you back a 15% restocking fee. Exorbitant if you ask me, but you gotta pay to play I guess.
Customs, both new and pre-owned, are typically 10-15% higher than most other retailers.

Now, I've found they are receptive to negotiation and will often get the price down to a more "typical market" price.

In the fine print of the website though, it is said that negotiated deal knives cannot be returned.
I don't know if that includes returning for store credit- it may.
Just something to keep in mind.

I bought a couple of CRKs from them in the past year or two when I was unable to find the ones I sought elsewhere. They were quick and reliable.

Tamar and Sako are top notch people and I have NOTHING but great things to sag about thier service and integrity.
