Record Texas Blackberry Harvest... Hmm? Siru..Hasiya?..AK??? KLVUK? Pick one!

The blackberries we commonly see up around here, same neighborhood as gunstock and shavru aren't near as good as them big plump ones kamidog is pickin. They are pretty good but smaller, not much to em and not nearly as sweet.

Dare I say it? Everything's bigger in Texas. ;)

I assume the fire has really boosted your blackberries the last couple years? Still remember driving back into town that day from hunting and seeing the black smoke from cedar park. Awesome you are ending up with some good wine out of the deal at least. That bark river is pretty awesome by the way.

Yep! Before the fire I had no sunlight on the ground except at the street and easements. Now I have no shade and the berries love sunlight. They have invaded the entire property now except where im cutting them by the house. I suspect they will continue to produce for another five years at least until the youpon and other trees start making some shade.

Grew up picking blackberries....actually earlier dewberries....and we never used any blade at all....a bucket and a long stick/staff to both push briars out of way and also a preparatory exploration of area for rattlesnakes and cottonmouths who love rodents who love berries and who love the thorncane for nesting....and to keep said upset snake at bay if persistant.....but never a blade, machete, swingblade or anything such as that....

Oh I understand ya for sure mtn. I dont NEED a blade but i WANT a blade. Theres plenty of rats but theres not too many snakes except an occasional copperhead or rat snake. Maybe the red tail hawks keep them under control. Ive actually gotten kinda lazy about looking for them they are so rare. When I go visit east Texas I have to be careful with the water moccasins.

Ain't nuthin' rare about rattlesnakes and cotton mouths here...during a dry spell it is always advisable to be alert for cottonmouths anywhere near a water source be that faucet or dog dish or whatever...or for either variety near a bird feeder drawing mice or rats....or any rocky shelf with leaves while hiking whether a bluff or stream bottom...running over rattlers with mower common outside incorporated limits....pretty much all over....if a pesky snake refuses to yield or leave (especially cottonmouths who dare you and even chase you to house), there is Mr Shotgun....so dewberry picking down here is not just a job but an adventure...you never see even oldest or poorest or youngest or richest out poking around anywhere without a stick....local country lexicon even calls any stick a snakestick.....breakopen singleshot .410 pistols quite the thing for muddy river bank fishermen....ah the Sunny South....

But to carry a knife or gun just because you can is the American Way....at this moment i have a cutdown 6.5" Randall #14 knife under my shirt (normal carry a 6" + fixed blade and german true military issue gravity knife in cargo pocket) and a revolver in my front pants pocket....Boy Scout oath and etc etc not to mention Uncle sending me places where bad things happen to bad people and good, with such spreading more and more here as well...and will, so long as folk are taught a totally self-centered self-affirming self-pleasuring life as put out everywhere and anywhere in our current society....
