I'm curious how many here like them and why hey like them. I'm also interested in the FOIL, How many here dislike them, and why.

Thanks!

I like a good recurve! Something like on the Microtech Amphibian, the Kershaw Blur or the Benchmade 710, where the shape is useful for draw cuts.

I like both how they cut, and how they look!

It depends...

Are you talking about this much recurve:

Or this much recurve:barf::

The traditional is perfectly fine and will aid in cutting performance, while the Direware is something I'd be ashamed to own.

Love it on the 710-1401! Just a bit tricky to sharpen for me, so I sent mine to Josh.......wasn't a problem for him!!

I like recurves, like on the ZT0300 series, or the Emerson Commander, 15, etc. They can be tricky to sharpen, but after you learn, they are no different than straight edge knives.

I'm not a big fan of recurves. Some are OK if they are subtle, like the CQC-15 mentioned above. Anymore than that becomes a bit of a sharpening hassle....not that it can't be done, just takes longer. Not once during an EDC chore have I ever wished the blade I was using was recurved.

My Emerson Commander is the most recurve I have in a blade and one's enough. As to function, it seems to me a recurve's only advantage is in cutting meat.

Be interesting to see what some people think it improves.....

Personally I do not care for them. It's not that they aren't effective slicers, it's that I can't resharpen them on my established means of sharpening.

I've heard of sharpening them by taping sandpaper around a Pringles can and just going about it that way.

I've heard lots of comments about them being hard to sharpen but I've never had any problem using the rods from a Sharpmaker or even Spyderco ceramic bench stones or pocket stones. Just hit the recurve along the stone's edge and you're in business.

Recurves likely come into their own with drawing cuts rather than pushing cuts. But the recurve doesn't prevent the knife from being used for other types of cutting. I think, more often than not, the recurve is there for appearance.

I don't have a lot of knives with recurves but I like the ones I do have. One of my all time favorites is the Benchmade 710 with that long sweet narrow profile blade.

I'm with Rev, they're nice on those models but when a recurve has too much curve then i don't really like it as much.

I love a recurve like the Blur has, and even with a combo edge its nicer IMO when the teeth are hidden under the belly as a separate entity vs. an interruption along a continuous edge...

But, recurve like the Kershaw speedbump Is a bit excessive... Not that it isn't great at cutting, but sharpening becomes trickier then need be.

I don't feel that recurves are that hard to sharpen. You just need a sharpener that's slender and rounded. You can use a ceramic rod, a waterstone with a rounded corner, a wooden dowel wrapped in sandpaper, etc.

No problems with my Mini-CQC 15. My actual every day carry.

Just use the corners of my Sharpmaker rods. Never had a problem with my old ZT0301 or 350 either.

I have a zt 0350, a few Kershaw shallots, blurs, several case hawkbills, yes they are excessive recurves but I like them. for cutting rope ,twine, cord they just cant be beat. I use stones no rods to sharpen them. its all in the geometry.

I like a nice recurve, especially the way Spyderco and Cold Steel do it. I still need a serrated one! I love cutting with their recurves; they really make a hard task easier or an easy task laughably simple!

The one task I do for which a recurve is excellent is cutting thin sheet like plastic film or rosin paper. For my other tasks they are "meh."
