Recurve Tanto vs Tanto vs Warncliffe for EDC

Recurve tanto! I am also looking for one with a blade just under 4". I am having a hell of a time.

Not a fan of any of those.

Nothing beats the majestic Wharncliffe for ease of sharpening. Can you pull a straight line? There, you mastered Wharncliffe movement. The tanto is pretty easy too, just two straight lines (assuming american tanto instead of traditional).

I hate recurves with every fiber of my being. They are almost completely useless for EDC, and are unnecessarily hard to sharpen.

All in all, my favorite blade shapes are (in order) Wharncliffe, modified Wharncliffe, leaf, then spear point. Obviously I'm not a fan of dramatic belly on my knives (I hate skinner blades).

Warnie = easy to sharpen, utilitarian blade shape.

Tanto= Hard to sharpen well depending on your method, really only has an advantage in stabbing, can be scary for sheeple.

Recurve tanto= a harder to sharpen tanto.

Why not have all three?
A Wharncliff blade is one I consider a "neutral blade". Easy to sharpen no curves or belts just a straight simple blade.
The Tanto is similar except it has a second diagonal edge and it isn't so fairly easy to sharpen as a wharncliff
The Recurve Tanto is a sick looking blade but is not easy to sharpen but with technique and practice can become easy. I find that if your slicing and start at the choil and slice using the whole blade, you will have a nice gash in what your cutting

I have had 2 Emerson's CQC-15 and a Roadhouse. Tanto is just a pain in the butt to sharpen and even more for recurve tanto.

Out of the 3 i would have to say Tanto all the way, W-cliff has that tip to chip off when you really need to dig at something and they are not great for long cuts. RECURVES SUCK TO SHARPEN

I like something with alot of belly. Im a dock worker so i need something to cut lines and to make long cuts in different material. I really enjoy the shape of my knew blade and after the past couple days it has worked awesome for me

I have very few tanto blades in my collection. Mainly because I don't think that I've EVER needed to stab something. I find the tip of a tanto blade to be awkward to use. On the other hand, I find that wharncliffe blades are very nice when I need to do precise cutting. You can hold the knife at a low angle and still use the point of the blade.

I'm a big fan of wharnecliff and sheepfoot blades. I find them very well suited to a variety of tasks, with the exception of skinning and butchering game.
