Recurve Tanto vs Tanto vs Warncliffe for EDC

I want to try out a recurve tanto. My former edc was a cheap Master USA spring assisted Tanto. I loved it, especially for work in our orchard. The tanto is really good at slicing hose, rope, etc. I retired after I got a killer deal on a Benchmade 9400 Osborne. Now I'm looking for a second edc with a tanto, maybe a tanto recurve

I have sharpened a reverse tanto, BM 940, and it was straight forward to sharpen and a easy blade shape to use

Pop into the Emerson thread, looks like the CQC-15 would be right up your alley

Wharncliffe or Sheep's foot. Or a crossbreed.

Seconding above recommendation for a sheepsfoot. Of your choices, wharncliffe, but I like a slight curve better for slicing.

I'll take a cat brush over a tanto any day.

I have to ask. Which tanto? The real one or the one that is sometimes called the, "American tanto," that was popularized by Cold Steel? The one that was more of a sword point with the two angles.

I've had a few knives with a real tanto point and those are my preference out of the four.
If you mean the American tanto point, then the wharncliff.

I am a wharncliffe fan and the insigno from CRK. They are easy to sharpen.

I've carried Wharncliffe/Coping bladed knives for years. They're just so practical for everyday chores. I love the Tanto blade, have quite a few but never really carried one as an EDC.

This has been my EDC for the last couple of months. I do like the utility of the blade shape.

For whatever reason, the drop point blade style is the most popular. I like the reverse Tanto because it has a stronger point. That said, I don't have one, but I do have a couple of wharnie's.

I did EDC an American Tanto for years. Point for piercing with a short edge for precision cuts with the long edge for slicing. Was working in warehouses and semi industrial spaces at the time.

Now, a drop point serves my uses for the most part. I want a wharncliffe for edc as well, but have not pulled the trigger yet. The hybrid sheepsfoot style has a certain appeal though.

With that being said I would say wharncliffe, american tanto. The recurve would be a pass for my uses.

Equally happy with Wharncliffe or tanto from a practical standpoint. I've never tried a recurved tanto, but I've owned recurved blades and they were fine; not really a good fit for my daily tasks, though.

But my lizard brain prefers tantos, so that's usually where I land.
