This knife is based on the Fin Bear design with a few improvements. I beefed up the blade a bit thicker and used a very tough steel. Handle materials also more desirable.

Blade is forge profiled from 52100 and flat ground with triple quench and temper and polished to 800grit.

Handle is Cherry dyed Acrylic stabilised birch burl with copper fittings.

Sheath is traditional Scandi swinger style with wet molded veg tan cow hide overlaid with Maroon dyed seal skin.

Dimensions :
OAL 250mm
Blade 125mm x 24mm x 5mm
Handle 125mm x 25mm tapered x 20mm tapered

Price $280.00
I am an international maker from SA and can accept Western Union transfers.

This knife is well balanced and very comfortable for every day use while being an exceptional collectors piece as well. This is my signature knife and a great deal of effort is put into making a quality blade.

What's wrong with the seal skin?

Seal population on the west coast of Africa is killing the marine life. Regular culling occurs to mediate the problem. Same thing with elephants killing the Savannah. Seal hide and products is a booming business in Namibia.

Very good looking knife there in this Nordic person's opinion!

I have nothing against the use of seal skin, heck, seal pelt makes for great hats and mittens. But possibly problematic in some foreign customs if they consider seals somehow endangered? I think it's highly unlikely that customs agents would recognise the source of the material just by glance but you never know what they are going to ask. But I'm just guessing here, of course.

Good luck with the sale! I'm tempted but skint.

Stu: My comment was not meant as a condemnation towards you. I know little about seal populations and seal hunting. That being said, I am skeptical about use of seal products for non-essential use. Perhaps I've just heard too many bad things, and not enough good in the media about seal hunting.
In response to your post re: the seal skin being from Namibia, a quick Google search turned up what looks to be a EU ban on Namibian seal products. Perhaps that is just due to European public opinion, but I am not the only skeptic.
On a different note, this knife (as I mentioned) and some of the others that you have posted seem to be very nicely done. Definitely worth considering.
