Red rouge on paper wheels?

Red rouge is great. I've been using it on all manner of edged tools for years and it has never failed to cut. I have read that it is intended for soft metals, but have not found that to be a problem. It works about as well as the green, but the scratches are smaller (only visible with strong magnification). I really like the woodstock brand wax compound bricks, though I haven't tried many. I rub them on paper to make improvised stropping stones, backed by a granite tile. I tried some porter-cable compound, but it is dry and crumbly and won't stick to the paper. Maybe it works fine for whatever its intended purpose is, but not for my uses.
