Red Scorpion Six

I have one and like it a lot.It cuts better than the TOPS verson and feels better as well.I did 2 reviews on it.Check the testing forum and use the search function.

I have one, too. I've only had a chance to take it on one trip. The knife performed fine. It chopped decently for what it is, the saw made quick notches, it carved tent stakes fine, and it took a baton with no problems. I want to get to know it better, so I have vowed to make it my front-line tool on any trips I take this year.

I'll also add that I feel the knife is put together nicely and dealing with Aaron at RS6-Blades was a pleasure.

I have to post this here...I posted it in "toolshed" last night after I finished...what do you think...I've owned a predator, and I didn't trust it (stainless steel and a really thin grind on the chopping edge) and this TOPS...I liked the feel of the TOPS, but the performance sucked...well, I think I fixed that. I put a convex grind that is alot steeper on the chopper, and a nice flat grind on the draw knife...in the pic..I threw the handle back on it...just for the pic, tomorrow the wife is out of town, and I get to work on it all day, for the finish and edge. I also took some stock of right in front of the saw, so that the teeth bite a little better, and sharpened the teeth up, it cuts like crazy now. Overall, I think that it well out perform its previous design quite well, and its alot lighter (it should be for all the grinding) and feels fast. It took awhile with the temper and all, but I think Its cool...not perfect, but cool. I think th tops just with a steeper edge is better than the Predator, although not nearly as sexy. JMHO. Gene

That's pretty cool Gene. I am also a bit leery about 440C on a knife like this. So you recommend the TOPS with modifications? Viktor.

Take a look at Mark Terrell's WSK. I love mine. D2 Steel. The handle is contoured. You have to feel this in your hands and shes a looker too!

Before I went all out on the TOPS..I took it to a friend that sharpens knives as a profesion..mostly for kitchens here in Austin, but he does pretty much anything with a sharp edge...I had him steepen the edge alot, almost double factory. It improved the chopping ability, but the little known or admited truth to this style of knife is, it is basically the wrong idea or shape to chop with...I look at this knife as 2 knives, and not a "CHOPPER" the shape of the front edge pushes the knife into your hand as you chop...thus redusing your "BITE" in the wood..almost a glancing blow if you will. I figured that knowing this, I had to make the front edge so damn sharp that it wouldn't matter. Now I can chop if I have to...but the draw knife and a sharp point is what you need to do camp chores well. So the knife isn't as bad as its detractors..they seem to focus on the fact that it doesnt chop as well as an axe. I ask what knife with a 6" blade does? I do believe if you can find a knife maker who wants to mess with one, and own a TOPS..you'd be in the best position. If you can't get a TOPS modded, get a Scorpion, as it is the better performer out of the box...just know its Steels limitations. I am no "Expert", I do mess with alot of stuff, and If I can break it, I usually well, that is why after one very short outing with the Predator, I decided, I better get what money I could out of it, and get a TOPS. Oh..and since I wrote a small book here, I'll keep going....The teeth on the back, or saw teeth if you will, are there to make notches, and they do this very well, it saves you time and effort to have them, and other than dinging up your baton (which is a stick you picked up of the ground) they hurt nothing to have them....I find the fear of being labelled RAMBO crazy. I have used my "notching teeth" for alot of FIGURE 4's, TRAPS, and FIRE-BOWS...they are handy. and nothing more...FYI..you can't cut a tree down with them. EDIT: l removed the rest..buzzed rambling, that made no sense ,even to me..Gene

I don't want to be putting anyones knife down here but I'm sure I saw pics of a Redscorpian with chunks missing from the blade after some chopping ! Maybe I'm wrong, do a search !!!

Savagesicslayer had the defective RS6 Predator. Aaron at RS6 replaced it. Doesn't bother me. I'll still use mine. if it fails in the same way that Sss's knife did, at least I know RS6 will stand behind it.

Gene, your modded TOPS Tracker looks AWESOME! Nice job!

And TD, if you've got $$ to spend on a WSK, you may want to contact MooseMaster. I know he has made a few different styles of WSKs. His work looks fantastic. Check some of his stuff out in the Custom WSKs thread. Someday Id like to get a few of his pieces.

Thanks, I'm kinda proud of it..being somewhat of a newbee to making knives, I thought I might screw it up, its not perfect, but its cool to carry, now that I put my stamp on it.

You are probably right. I have a special rate for Bladeforums.com members at this thread
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=549820
It has all the specs.
There was also an endurance test posted in the reviews section that isn't biased. We did have a heat treatment issue with the knife everyone talks about the big chips on the chopping blade. We replaced it and I think nothing but positive since then. But check out the review and see what you think after.
I Never make the claim that we are perfect, but I can guarantee we will always make it right.
