'Red tape' clarification?

Forgot to mention. A made in Nepal sticky may trigger a duty charge as well. If there is nothing on the blade it is often assumed to be USA made.

Ah... I see. My last order was opened by customs and therefore got a duty charge because of the made in Nepal tag.

Of course all of our threads are productive in one way or another,;) but there was some really good info exchanged on this thread that may save our Canadian brothers a bit of money.
And saving money is always good!!!!:D

Much too much money for me to even think about until I'm steadily employed again, and then I'll have to save.

Thanks for all the info - the duty and taxes seem trivial when compered to the exchange rate. If anybody is at all interested in barter or barter/cash, I've some experience in making really good staves and walking sticks to order. I can't claim to have skill levels like a Kami, but some of my works have gone for around $50-$70 Cn., topping out at $180 before the Great Walking Stick Crash of 1999.

And about employment... hmm, d'you suppose BirGorkha is in need of apprentices? *grin*

That might be an interesting vacation. Learn how to pound hot steel in Nepal and watch the Kamis make khuks. All the food you can eat and you'll make enough money for a few packs of gum for the trip home.

:)

You've got the pix, Bruise, but look you have to look at it this way.

Nepal is the 7th poorest country in the world last I checked -- per capita income maybe $190. The US is pretty high up on the list. I haven't checked lately but I'm reasonable sure we are not numero uno anymore but still probably I'd guess per capita income to be around $19,000. A little algebra will tell us that the 25 cents in Nepal is $25 here. Not bad for an apprentice.
