I was one of the very lucky winners of @glennbad ’s giveaway and he customized my GEC 44 with beautiful ironwood scales and added a sword shield.

I would like to take this time to thank the members of the porch who make this such a great place to hang out by offering up a very special knife for a GAW.

This knife was made by our very own Eric (@ea42) for Richard of Red Trout Knives. Unfortunately Richard passed away soon after these were sold.

The rules are very simple, tell me what your favorite scales are and let me know you are in. Photos are encouraged but not required. You must have 50 or more posts in the traditional sub forum before today. If you win the knife, please do not sell or trade the knife (but feel free to gift it). The knife is only 1 of 2 katalox wood knives that were made so it should be easy to track down. All porch members with 50 or more posts are encouraged to join (including our international friends).

I’ll let this run until next Sunday, August 2nd (around this time) and will choose a winner from a random number generator based off of your post number.

EDIT: Winner announced, congrats @Leslie Tomville, post #90!

My favorite handle material is wood...
Exactly like the knife you are giving away.
You are very generous, that is a beautiful knife.
Here is one of my own wood handled knives, my most carried of all.
If I am lucky enough to win, please send the knife to r redden (Randy)

I’m in (and thank you). I got to meet Rich once at his house when he lived north of Charlotte. What a congenial fellow, he showed me so many old Schrade knives from his collection and I bought two knives from him that day. I like many handles on a pocketknife but my favorite are the dark jigged bone handles common on mid-late 1970’s and early 1980’s Case. OH
An example:

I can’t resist this one, thanks for the opportunity and generosity Wharn Wharn ! Katalox was one of my top choices for the Red Trout knives, but there was a minor mixup. Luckily I was still able to get a Aberdeen jigged bone version. If I win this giveaway, I’ll take a page out of your book and will give the Aberdeen jigged bone knife away in a giveaway. :)

My favorite covers/scales are hard, dense (and often oily) woods that don’t need stabilization. African blackwood and desert ironwood are by far my favorites.

Awesome giveaway. I'm in.

My favorite cover material is stag. I think it strikes the best balance of beauty and durability. Plus it's texturally interesting, an important characteristic when a knife is often used as a worry stone.
