Some of you may or may not remember a couple of pictures I posted a couple of months ago about a dagger I hand forged when I was at Ethan Beckers house for the weekend taking in some good beers, food and coal fumes. Well, unfortunately, once I returned to the homestead in Indiana and went to heat treat the piece, for whatever reason, it snapped in two. Now, I'm not saying it wasn't fault of my own, but I cant figure out what i did wrong. The rest of the blade rockwelled perfectly and where it broke snapped under the pressure of four fingers. Beats me, but. I had the handle and damascus finger guard all ready to go, and was really disappointed it ruined.

Now, to explain a little about myself. One thing that I hate is doing something over. I'm a measure twice and cut once type a guy, and have start over on something I already have effort in drives me insane. However, if there's one thing that I hate worse than that, it's defeat.

I threw this project deep into my toolbox totally expecting to forget about it. But, it wouldn't let me. It was to cool of a project to let it die. So, in the spare time I don't have. I spit this little jewel out.

Here's the specs:

9in. OAL. 4 1/2in. 01 blade, 4 1/2in. deer crown handle
Copper pin, copper heart in the hilt, damascus finger guard,
Handmade/handstiched flesh side out sheath with western diamond back rattlesnake inlay.

As far a daggers go, there are kinda difficult as far a symmetrical geometry and such, I purposely wanted this piece to look old, so, no measurement where taken on the layout of this. Everything just king flowed and fell together, even if it took twice. The sheath I made flesh side out and no snap to give it a rough primitive look,

man, what a sweet looking blade! even the stag crown is heart-shaped, lol. Beautiful work, Todd.

This is a stunning dagger with the devil in the details. Pictures don't really do it justice.

This is REALLY cool Todd! I am glad you achieved your "redemption." The hearts really set this piece off too. Very very cool.

Love it! There is so much thought put into that package that it's impressive. You really got some skills bro.

So please forgive me, I'm the "new" guy. What's the meaning behind the heart? I like it. Especially the copper heart in the butt of the antler. That's amazing.

nicely done - did you hammer this one out of O1 or did you pick up some extra 1084 to play with?

I am glad you kept going and persevered Todd. Man that is just beautiful!! The Materials work really well together with the techniques used. I love the continuity of the heart on this piece! Just stunning man!

I could plunge that into the heart of my sworn enemies..... Zambie possums. Yes there are real and the will eat your soul first. Anyway beautiful work todd this one is top notch sir

Knowing how heart broken Todd was after he broke the last one(my laughter was reactionary I swear), this knife has brought a little closure. It really is a stunning piece. Little subtleties are here and there, but not overdone. Definitely destined as a show piece for some lucky person.

Todd, you might should explain who ended up owning this remarkable knife. That was a sincerely impressive and touching moment.

If you're too shy to tell the story, I will. ;)

I appreciate that James, but you know me well enough be now to know I'm not much on bragging on myself............. I'll let you do it. :D. Besides, you know as well as I do it doesn't even start to repay what he's done for us.
