I just refinished the last folder. I ground off the thicker amboyna and replaced it with some thinner redwood burl. Now I am starting to get that framing effect i was looking for.

The next two should show it even better.

I didn't get much input from the last post, does that mean you all did not like it too much? Or are you just sick of me posting my work? ;) Do you all like the bolstered look better?

As alway, let me know what you really think, that is what I want to hear.

I believe that the big problem with the replies were that we were either rendered speechless, or let the blade speak for itself. Both that and this were magnificant, but I like the last one more. I absoloutly love the patern on these scales though.

the new scales hit it right on the head
it looked good before but those are just plain sweet....especially with that steel.
great job!

I like this much better. It looked pretty cool the other way, but this is an improvement. Has a much sleeker look

Look at it this way: if nobody says anything negative about it we must all like it. I think it's drop-dead gorgeous, but since you had folks telling you that already i thought there's no need for patting your shulder any further, you probably have next project to move on as it is :D

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I re-read my post and I sounded like a "glory hound" I did not mean it that way at all. But being new to the craft, I want to get all the feedback possible so i can continue to improve. I am happy when people like it, but what is sometimes more valuable to me is when people tell me what they don't like, and how I can make it better.

So if I cam across as a butt head, I appologize. Thanks again for your feedback on this new style. I just tend to assume if there are no replies, that people are holding back because they don't want to leave negative remarks, incase I take offense. Well, I won't be offended, the critical remarks can take me down a better path. The Viking Dagger for example.

Thanks again.

Sean, I like 'em both, and I apologize for not commenting earlier. Your knife looks just stunning, fella. Your steel really jumps out there, and the wood actually compliments it, instead of clashing. That's my opinion, anyhow.

That is the big draw back. I would have to strip off the overlay, make any adjustments and then reapply the overlay. The blackwood is attached by screws, so once I get down to those, everything is easy.

I refinished this one when I took off the amboyna. It only takes about 3/4 of an hour to strip it and reapply the overlay and finish out. Not too bad if it needs to be done.

I like it too Sean. It is sleek and clean and the Redwood gives it that old time classy look. Very nice!

I Gage the response by what people here don;t say too. This group seems to have been raised by the old motto, If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Some very polite gentlemen, but it does get hard to decide if it's a keeper or not.

Ohhh, don't worry, I can be plenty negative, trust me (no winking because I am being 100% literal). What most people don't understand about there own work generally (inc. myself) is that it is generally very good, and while you made it and have a chance to see all of the flaws, others don't, but when we see something, we generally say it. Think of it a high complement that very little is said.

Very nice, I like this better than the last, just for the framing effect. I asked before but never saw an answer (Maybe you did, just didn't see it) are the scales just epoxyed on or are there bolts underneath?? are the bolts just all thread or what??
I really enjoy you posting your work, it is all first-class for me!

Very nice! I missed the first one but this one is good to go. I think everything compliments each other very well.
