Here's one fantastic Ruple. Now for sale!

001x600H.jpg

I am the second owner of this older (15 years old?) Ruple trapper marked "A97". It was originally purchased at a big knife show in Las Vegas in the late 1990's and has been in a safe ever since. Knife is "near mint" because of some light handling marks. It certainly has not been used, carried, or sharpened but it has been held and looked at.

First the terms of sale:

1. Price is CAD all-in including shipping/insurance if paid as a no-fee PayPal "Personal" transaction. An extra 3% will apply if payment is made for "Goods". Payment MUST be made in Canadian funds (easy to do with PayPal). It will be fully insured and tracked when it is shipped. You will get this knife or your money back! This price includes shipping to all parts of Canada and the continental USA. Extra shipping charges will apply to other locations. I reserve the right to NOT ship (or sell) to countries I find sketchy.

2. I WILL NOT be accepting a return of this item! I'm in BC, Canada and cross-border returns are an expensive and complicated hassle. The knife in the pics is the knife you will get. DO NOT buy this knife unless you are sure you want it!

3. PayPal will be accepted as a safe way for folks who don't know me to pay in which case it will be shipped instantly. I will also accept more traditional methods but the knife will not be shipped until cheques clear etc.

4. I have been active in the Schrade collector forum here for a few years now and I think folks will say I'm an straight-up guy if you ask around. I also have 100% positive feedback as a seller on eBay. People who buy from me are not disappointed! Contact me for more details.

Back to the knife...

Closed length is 3 5/16". Two-blade trapper pattern with brown and black jigged bone handles fully dovetailed into what I think are stainless bolsters with stainless arrowhead shield. I'm going with stainless bolsters and shield because of the description of a very similar Ruple I ran across (http://www.arizonacustomknives.com/product.aspx?ProductID=107215). The blades, springs and liners are extensively file-worked. Blades are most likely ATS34 but may be CPM154. Blades have half-stops and the springs are quite strong resulting in a loud "talk" when closing. Walk is smooth when opening. The kicks are set right and the blades sit parallel. Mr. Ruple knows just how to make perfect knives if this one is any indication. I will include the handy zippered (fake?) sheepskin lined storage pouch pictured to store it in.

Turns out there were some tiny pieces of lint clinging to the knife in some of the pics so please ignore them. In general I think my pics show the condition of the knife quite well so view them carefully and judge for yourself. What you see is what you are going to get... it's gorgeous.

Cheers!

The first scan--the upper left corner of the bone--is that a chip by the bolster or is something going on with the scan? Also, the rear bolster in that first scan looks more rounded at the top than it does on the opposite side in the second scan. Can you please explain why?

Here are two zooms of the area you mention. I don't believe it's been chipped post original sale. As far as I know this is exactly how Mr. Ruple made it. The area is so small on a 3 1/4" knife it's hard to see with the naked eye. The area has been finished and has the same polish as the surrounding bone so I'm 99.9% sure that's the way it was originally sold. Please make up your own mind.

As far as the bolsters go it's just that they are mirror polished and rounded in every direction so the light bounces off them in strange ways when scanned. Both are the same.

This knife IS in near-mint condition. As far as I know it is as Bill Ruple made it. The bolsters match. This is not a "second" or an ok knife. I see it as a masterpiece of one-at-a-time craftsmanship by a great maker. Any prospective buyer should make up their own mind as to condition.

I have tried to show 2x life-size photos or bigger. If you are able to afford the knife right away and have a firm no-messing-around offer for me then I will dig out the knife again and scan it at 1200dpi. This will be microscope zoom and I think it unnecessary but I will do so if a closer look is what it will take for someone to make up their mind.

Sincere thanks to those who have shown interest! If it doesn't go soon I'm going to keep it and sell some Schrade "sure things" instead. It's the best knife I've ever held. That's all I really know for sure.
