After reading so many GBU threads on these sneaky
traders, like Dennis James or whoever he is, I
think it is time to start being references for
each other. And maybe a lot of you already do
that. Like if someone wants to trade with me
(and I do not ask traders to put my name on GBU)
they could ask me for a reference of someone I have
traded with-and I could tell them Blilious (or one
of the others I have traded with) and they could
contact Gadi for assurance that the trade would be
on the up and up.

If they cannot provide a reference and their name
is not on the GBU, then shipping your knife AFTER
you receive theirs would be in order.

Just a thought. Fortunately for me I have not
had a problem yet(knock on wood)with the trades
I have made but reading about these suspicious
characters makes me wonder.

Jack,

good thinking...

thank you for the good reference...;)

anyway - a few points - some of them obvious - to consider:

if the poster is a new member with 5-15 posts - extra caution is in place.

(also check what he wrote in the past...this can teach you a lot about a person...)

If he has no previous trades - same.

if he has no reference on the GB&U - same.

if he is UN willing to send his knife or money first to a long time and respectable member - be very careful....

Think about it - if Glockman99, Jake Evans, Guncollector, Bobby B, Wolfmann601, or many many others I forgot right now offer you to send first - what have you got to loose?

You run a search on the GB&U - find out they are top guys - and you have nothing to worry about. At worst - they will make you happy no matter what - and you'd get a good reference on the forum from the most upstanding members.

If you refuse - you are either childish - bad as of itself...or you are not going to keep your end of the deal.

Its very simple really - if you are new or UN known to the clan - you have to be the first to hand out your goods

Gadi AKA Blilious

Good info Gadi and by the way.........:) nice
to see you have a NEW list on the trading forum.
You sure do like to trade.

oh - another thought:

I wanted to get info on a specific member recently...to make sure he is trade-worthy...

couldn’t find him here so I posted a "you know X" thread....

no replies - not even from him...LOL

plus he wasn't replying my emails...so the trade failed...but when he tried to trade my Friend Chad234 - I was there to make sure he doesn’t get screwed by him...

what comes around - goes around....

said member can’t trade on knifeforums either now...

It's become a sad fact of our society, but anyone who appears out of the blue, has 20-30 posts in a very short period of time and then attempts to engage in a trade with an established member of BFC, that person is GOING to have to ship first before I ship him/her anything!!!!

Like any other line of business that requires TRUST and INTEGRITY. Until it is established, you must understand you need to "prove yourself".

This will only have a negative implication on the scumbags. The honest 99.9999999999% will fully understand this. As "Newbies" we all had to do it and lately we have all become far too trusting and complacent.

In a sense, what that "idiot" did is good. He woke us up to the fact that a scammer could join BFC, portray himself as a knifeknut and be very patient. Then, set up a handful of deals [especially sales via Paypal] and CLEAN HOUSE.

I do not see that taking place now!!!!! Thanks Dennis

I lurked here for a long time before getting on too. I made my first transactions before I had a dozen posts. When I bought, I sent the check IMMEDIATELY and expected the seller to hold out 'til he got it. When I sold, I did the same.... sent the knife then let them send out the check when they were satisfied.

Nobody asked me to do that, I simply expected that it was the proper thing to do, me being an unknown quantity and all. Bought a BM 970 off of E_Wok, if I remember correctly. He said he'd wait for the funds then ship.... no problem with me, as I had feedback about him and he had none about me.

My advice to new members who wanna transact with others: Don't take it personally. If you are dealing with a known good guy here and are an unknown quantity, Blilious is right. You know you are in good hands, so go ahead and comply. Send your stuff out first. You know you are gonna make out OK on the transaction, and you are going to get good feedback. Bitch about it and you will look like you are something less than honest. It is a win/win either way if you can be patient and trusting.

I agree with most of what's been said, but with one exception. You can't necessarily go by length of time. I would tend to go by number of posts. I joined BF almost two years ago and almost immediately forgot about it (my loss!!!) and really didn't start coming back until this past May and started trading shortly after that. I do thank all that showed faith in my integrity but am not sure length of time is a good factor to base integrity on. The only problem I've had is with a member with only 5 posts. Hopefully we've got the problem straightened out, but I am going to be a little more careful with members with less than 75 posts, especially if they haven't traded before.

I have found that someone searching for a reference on me will be out of luck. Ed T because of the space, it doesn't have at least three characters and generated an error. LOL
Uh Well, I prefer to ship first anyway LOL

Ed T,
A search for "Ed T" using the "Search by Keyword" option generates the error message but you will be successful if you use the "Search by User Name" option.
