Refilling Printer Ink Cartirdges?

I use a "continous flow system" or CFS. You can see it here:

Bulk ink is extremely cheap. The system works as long as you don't let the printer set unused for days, weeks, or months (depending on humidity.) The company does provide a free program that will tell your computer to print a test every day. (Again, ink costs are negligable.)

I've done it and it's a mess. Still, it's worth the attempt on a lesser model.

Cheap printers=expensive cartridges. (this was acclaimed.)
Expensive printers=expensive cartridges  (this *I* know...)

My Epson 5500 photo printer has four large cartridges and Epson swears the quality is good for fade-free images up to 200 years with their paper. So I use them.

(4) individual cartridges at $49.00 each - best online price I can find outside of eBay. OUCH!!!

By the way, I don't know if you guys know this, but don't replace the ink cartridge when the computer says it is out, replace it when it is actually empty. My computer has said both my black and color ink have been empty for a month and I should replace them, but I printed off all the photos from a trip we took (about 100 4x6's) and there is still plenty of ink in there.

Yes-- I had forgotten this since using my CFS. With an Epson printer, when it tells you that you need to replace a cartridge, go through the motions of removing the "empty" one, and then re-install the same one. You'll get a lot more ink out of it.
