This refined rustic knife is forged of 5160 from tip to tang including
the palm swell and taper in the tang. The bevels are ground and the
blade heat treated by selective hardening the edge and tempering to 58
Rc. The wood scales are stained Mango wood (Mango is blonde in color)
and sealed with Tung oil. My intent with this class of rustic knives
it to produce a blade that looks 150 years old but one that has been
taken very good care of. The spine is nicely file worked. Interestingly I've had guys at the local gun shows tell me "they didn't file work the spines back then" so this can't be period correct however while traveling through Colorado Springs I was privileged to
see Kit Carson's knife displayed in the local museum and was pleased
to see the spine fileworked. Embellishing a blade in said manner is
NOT a recent phenomenon.
