I have enjoyed collecting/acquiring knives for most of my adult life. The vast majority of my prior collecting involved modern folding knives. During 2015 I saw a whimsical knife posted frequently on the "General" forum pages. That knife was the GEC number 15 "Beer Scout Knife". I enjoy beer, so naturally the Beer Scout Knife peaked my interest. I decided that I needed to have one, so eventually I went on the hunt. Much to my disappointment I discovered that this knife was no longer available at retailers. I was late to the party... but something strange happened as I was searching for this elusive knife. I realized that traditional folding knives were pretty darn cool. I have to admit that I was bitten by a bug after scrolling through the "Let's Talk GEC" thread found in the Traditionals subsection of this forum. 2016 started with rapidfire traditional folder purchases. After my initial frenzy subsided this Knife purchasing trend continued. As I reflect back on 2016 I realize I averaged a traditional folder acquisition in excess of one per month! (Maybe gluttonous?) In the past it was rare for me to carry a traditional knife as an EDC. During 2016 I'd be hard-pressed to recall a day in which a traditional was not my primary knife. 2016 from a knife collecting/using perspective has been more enjoyable and interesting than recent years past. Totally outside my "traditional" norm.
So I pose this question: Did 2016 bring anything new or exciting to your own knife collecting "hobby"(addiction...sickness....etc)?
Photographic evidence of my own illness - traditionals acquired during 2016. And I DID get not only 1 but 2 Beer Scout Knives...the beer barrel oak being my last traditional of the year.
