Howdy folks-

Managed to snap some pics today of my re-furb'd Spyderco. In a couple of the cracks you can see the white of the superglue, but I still like how it came out overall. Most importantly the handles swelled back and the tang is no longer exposed, and the cracks are well sealed.

To summarize what I did: I put CA/superglue into the cracks, let it dry, and then sanded with 600 grit and then 000 steel wool. Then I used a 'double boiler' sort of system to heat some BLO that it was soaking it, I let it soak in the BLO for about a week (only at the raised temp shortly at the beginning). Then I let it dry, and rubbed on a few coats of clear paste wax with a sponge, to seal in the oil.

Sorry for the lack of 'before' pics.

Oh, last second addition: Do not discuss any of the other issues with the Spyderco bushcrafter in this thread (i.e. breakages, value, etc.). I don't care. If it's talk about what you did to refurb yours, etc., that's great.

That's a beautiful knife. The handle looks super comfy. I can't stand squared edges on handles. My hands aren't square :) Finally a designer (Chris Claycomb) that knows what fits the hand...

Nice job on the refurb Spooky ... The cracks on mine have closed up quite a bit so
I'm going to attempt the superglue fix this week, hopefully mine turns out as good.

Great work! I was lucky...mine has been a ok right from the factory. I love this knife and can't wait to put it to some good use this year!

BLO = Boiled Linseed Oil ??

PS/ It looks great! You dd a good job............

nice job Will... that came out great... i love the grain on those scales...

Well done. Did you have to try to keep the CA/superglue from running out of the cracks with anything, or does it wick into the cracks and stay where you want it?

Thanks,

Doug

BEAUTIFUL! I sealed mine with clear nail varnish after sanding and super gluing. Zero issues have occured. They sure have a great edge too!

I filled the crack(s) with super glue and then coated the scales with several coats of formby's tung oil finish. You may be able to see the crack in the middle of the second pic. You might also be able to see the handle shrinkage. If you cannot, do not worry, as it is very slight. I guess I am one of the very fortunate ones to get a knife for a very reasonable price that is very close to being unblemished.

when mine came the handle had a good bit of shrinkage and two not-so-small cracks... after leaving it for a couple of weeks in the florida humidity, the handle has plumped back up (as I had predicted it would) and I cant feel where the handle ends and the tang begins anymore. the cracks have closed up nicely as well. i now have a more or less unblemished piece that i can surely be proud to own and use.

great fix on your blade, looks fantastic!!
