Refrubished Spyderco bushcrafter....

Thanks for the kind words folks! And for the notes on what you did to yours.

Well done. Did you have to try to keep the CA/superglue from running out of the cracks with anything, or does it wick into the cracks and stay where you want it?

Thanks,

Doug

The latter, it was really a non-issue. I applied it liberally into the cracks and then just sanded off any 'extra'. Overall a smooth process though.

Thanks for the "heads up" on these 'SpookyP'.... I got one headed my way today..... ;)

Looks like you did a fantastic job on yours, thanks for sharing.

I've had my UK bushcraft for a few weeks and I love it! I was fortunate enough to have only one scale cracked and I've been patient with it. Here in the Midwest it has swelled nicely and the crack is almost gone. The knife performs well batoning and fire making. I am pretty happy with this purchase so far. I dig it!

Ordered 4 and busted one. None of them has or had as beautiful wood as what your knife has. Man those scales look nice.

The cracks on mine are so small that I'm thinking they might swell closed but I haven't had a chance to pick up some BLO yet. I still can't get used to the sheath but I can't wait to take it into the woods.

Spooky, in all honesty, if you didnt point out the flaws i would have never known of them. That is a great looking knife.

I've had more time using mine and I cannot get over how comfortable the handle is. It seriously feels like Spyderco made it just for me.

I have mentioned in another thread, that I also refurbished my Spyderco handle. When I got it, the tang was exposed, and there were cracks.

I steamed it lightly, to open the cracks, and expose any that I did not see at first. The tang was no longer exposed, I suppose the handle swelled a bit.
Then I filled the cracks with CA adhesive. That took several applications, and I lightly sanded the wood between adding more adhesive.
When the cracks were filled, I sanded the wood with different grits of paper, and then applied Min Wax Maple Stain. I put on several coats, rubbing each when dry, with 000 steel wool.
With the last coat, I just let it dry for several days. I then lightly brushed on Min Wax clear polyurethane. Two coats of that, and I was finished.

It now looks good, is sealed, and it works fine. I worked it hard this past weekend in the woods. I am very pleased with the knife.
