Just noticed how good reggae music was, I think it's the best music out there. The lyrics put out a good message that just relaxes the soul

Bob marley, Jimmy Cliff, Third world are some the best musicains in the World Songs like "get up stand up" "harder they come" "Is this love" "you can get it if you really want" are all great reggae classics check them out.

The movie The Harder They Come starring Jimmy cliff is an oustanding movie with one of the best sound Tracks

Just wanted to let everyone know how much I like Reggae music!!!!

What do ya think of Ja Reggae music?

I like a lot of reggae, though there are a lot of horrible reggae groups around too. Marley is great of course, Peter Tosh, Mutabaruka, most anything Lee Perry touched-a few of my favorites. I even got the band at my church to do "Three Little Birds" during a service one Sunday. I think they thought I was crazy until I talked the band's leader into buying Legend.

I really only like the older stuff and have very little tolerance for the "newer" styles.

I tend to listen to a lot of hard music, so Bad Brains gets a lot of play.

Some raggae is pretty good and I sometimethink I shoudl listen tomore of it.

Lately I've been listening to banjo picken fiddle strumming yodeling olde tyme bluegrass.

I like older "roots" reggae like the Maytalls and the Heptones. That comes from my bigger love of ska music. I like new ska, but I also love the original ska like the Skatalites, which predates reggae. Desmond Dekker, Prince Buster, Eric "Monty" Morris, Laurel Aitkin, and Lord Tanimo to name a few more. Nearly 300 of my 700 CDs are ska, with only a few actual reggae.

Man, at least I'm not the only person that loves ska! I have a funny story-At one of our hurricane parties, We were listening to some classsic ska. Someone asked me "what is this, reggae?" and I went int how ska predates reggae, and the time signature difference, the lyrical content difference, etc. he says" no, this is reggae. it's what I call reggae. I took out the CD box and showed it to him. The title of the set is "this is ska". pretty clear.

Good Reggae is great music, alright, especially live. I am a big fan of Reggae influenced bands like The Clash and The Police. Marleys Three Little Birds is one of the best songs ever written, always cheers me up!

James: Would you say the Police are more influenced by ska or reggae?

I always think of Reggae when I hear The Police, I associate Ska with the the Two-Tone bands like The Specials, Madness and The English Beat. But I can't tell Dancehall from Dub, I'm just a middle-aged fat guy from California ;)

James, the songs "Canary in a Coalmine" and "Can't Stand Losing You" come to mind. That's why I asked. Don't worry...I'm just a middle aged white guy from Texas, so what do I know, indeed.

By the way, reggae is now the music of choice in my shop since I had some people from Vancouver come by. :footinmou ;) Kidding!!

It's even better when it's your friends, just after you get off stage. ;)

Exactly! Extremely happy and positive without being saccharine.

I like some Ska too. I saw The Toasters several years ago in a tiny club and sweated off about 10 lbs. As with reggae, I think there are a bunch of mediocre Ska bands, that give the good ones a bad rep.

Somebody mentioned the Clash? Now we are really getting into my territory. They are one of the bands that make my "If you could go back in time and only see one concert..." list.
