Regular sebenza users, shifting towards the 21?

Serious question. I love the regular design. I carry one daily, and yes, I am one who bitched when I found out the design was going away. Well, I am thinking, is the transission easy to the 21 for handle ergonomics, or have you moved to the umnum? I am thinking about getting another CRK, and am just curious what others have done. Not starting a regular vs. classic thread:D, just curious if you like the 21 design, or if you are sticking with the regular with all of your back up regulars in the safe.

Thanks,

Dan

I simply like the Regulars the best. They are still fairly available and while I'd be content with a 21...

...the Regular will always be number one.

The biggest regret I've had since being "into knives"(20 odd years) would be the selling of my Sm. Regular very recently. I really figured I could fill the void with another CRK, but I was wrong. I went from a tanto Umnumzaan, to a tanto 21, back to a tanto Umnumzaan and still miss my Sm. Reg. I'm constantly looking for one on the Exchange Forum, but have missed out more than once. I've found it very difficult to find a plain model out there, but am considering a decorated version if I don't come across one soon.

Hey Dan. For me, I generally carry a Classic/21, with the regulars getting stored more and more. If I could mate a 21 with the Regular blade style, I'd be in Seb heaven.

I only have one Seb, a large Regular. It's the only one I want or need, unless of course I can luck upon one of the very rare flat-ground versions.

I use my Lg. Regular more then my 21. Though the Umnumzaan sits right between the two.

I think it would be easier to grab an Umnumzaan simply because it's so different. Instead of noticing all the things you miss about the Regular (compared to the 21) you simply notice that they are different knives.

The only small I would consider taking over a Small Regular is the small Insingo. The reason is because of the broader blade shape is more appealing then the slim look of the normal 21 for me. I love the Regular and if I had the money I would buy three tomorrow. One for EDC and two others in the safe.

Small I like the regular, large I like the 21.

Edited to ad. One thing I wish I could test with the large Regular is how it would open with gloves. I made a video that I will upload in future that shows how due to the half moon cutout in the large 21 I can easily open the knife even with thick welding gloves.

I only have 3 Lrg Sebenzas, 1 being a Regular and the other 2 are CCG 21's. I carry my Regular daily. I just love everything about it. It fits me like it was made for me.

I've owned the Regular, Classic, and 21. They basically feel the same to me. I sort of prefer the fuller feeling handle of the Regular, but in day to day use there is no big difference.

I really like the Regular blade profile but I like the ergos of the 21 handle better. So far, my first sebbie was a CGG small and I carried that for about a year. Then it was replaced with a small 21 and now a small insingo. I guess blade profile doesn't matter much now since I'm edcing the insingo.

Good luck on a quest to find regulars out there!

i like my small regular quite a bit. when i get my funds together hopefully i can find a large regular to match it.

I'm kind of middle of the road. I always liked the small classic with micarta inlays but preferred the regular blade for the thicker tip and seemingly less delicate blade so to me it was a toss up. I like both. What I kept was the classic though and sold the regular I had. Still, that doesn't keep me from being on the look out for a good deal on a regular if I see one. Problem is I usually see them after another member quicker on the draw than me has already seen it and claimed it or I see one and it's available but I have to sit back and watch someone else snag it because I'm broke! :(

Maybe my number will come up one day.

I still have and love my lone Regular. Don't ask about all the facelifts over the years--it's still a large Reg to me:D

I don't care much for the larger lock-release cutout on the 21/Classic profiles. Just personal preference.

STR hit the nail on the head regarding the blade shape, etc.

Not to say that if I didn't have a backup or two that I couldn't learn to love the 21/Classic profile, but I've just always deemed the regular profile to be more utilitarian.

Professor.

The regular is tops for me with the Umnumzaan next. I would maybe even go as far as to say I
don't like the classic/21, I have really never warmed up to handle and blade shape at all.

Large Regular Sebenza for me all the way. I love the blade shape, has some belly to it and the handle if very comfortable. I dont mind the handle on the 21, but I Hate the blade shape, way too point for me. I have had several small 21's and have sold or traded them away. I havent tried a large 21, hope to someday. Instead of going the 21 route, I got a Umnumzaan and I really like it as you can see from my many many posts on it.........The best of both worlds was the "P" sebenza which I wish they would bring back. It had the Regulars blade profile with a classic style handle. I have a small one, unmarked "P" style and love it. I am going to send it to the spa to be made new again. Hope to send in later this week.........The good thing is now we have the Insingo and tanto to choose from now. I like their blade shapes, just dont have them as of yet. I would rank the Insingo over the 21 due to the blade shape. I would rate the tanto sebenza over the 21, I dislike the 21's blade shape that much.

I like'em both equally. Started out with the Regular, and found the Classic/21 to be very easy to like as well.

The only thing I do not like about the regular is the lock bar area. Too rough on the fingers when opening and closing but I DO LOVEEEEE the blade profile. I wish CRK never went away with that. Hopefully they can chime in and give their customers, who prefer the regular blade shape a reason why.
