I EDCd a Sm. &/or Lg. Regular for the better part of Seven years! During that time, around 30 Sebenzas have passed through my hands, 8-10 of 'em being users. I always thought every "Classic" that passed through my hands was just ugly. I thought the "Large" Sebenza was just toooo large. The latter of the Seven years I ONLY carried a "plain" Lg. Reg.
A little over a year ago I bought a spankin new Lg. 21. There is no doubt that the "Regular" is more aesthetically pleasing. After carrying the Lg 21 for a year I can safely say that IMO the handle shape is better, the blade shape is more useful and it carries better.
I really used to dislike a few things about the design... One: The perfectly arced large cutout for the thumb lug. It almost seems "primitive." Two: The way the tang of the blade protrudes (more than the Reg) from the handle when closed. Three: the belly of the "Reg" is a prettier (AHEM!, manlier) design. Four: The handle of the Reg is definitely cooler looking. Definitely. Five: (now not an issue) I strongly dislike the inscription on the Classic.... "Classic MM." I just think it looks gaudy.
Honestly, now I feel the exact opposite. I think the 21 is a more elegant knife in every way and obviously every bit as functional. I think is is more comfortable. The less belly on the blade gives a broader surface area when push cutting or even standard slicing. In my uses, the belly of the blade is what requires the most maintenance. The broader surface contact seems less prone to "rolling" or just plain gettin' duller.
The ONE thing that I dislike about the 21 is the corners on the handle. If the top rear corner (the corner with the screw) could be rounded the handle would be more comfortable.
