Regular vs. 21

Both great knives, but which one is better in your opinion and why?

Because of the different handles, does the regular feel bigger than the 21 or the Classic?
 
I like both handle styles, both have their unique features. I think the regular handle is alot more rounded and is more comfortable. The built in grip like serrations on the regular make it secure in hand. While, I like the large thumb opening of the 21. This is where I like the modded Barry H regular/21 design opening. For me, what makes me prefer the regular over the 21 in blade shape. I love the regular blade profile. Its everything I want in a folding knife blade. The 21 blade shape is way too pointy for me. It has never appealed to me. Though some like it, its just a matter of preference. For me, it will always be the regular 99% of the time, thats jow much I like it over the 21.

+1. I placed an order for a large regular on the last day they were offered, just because when I think of a Sebenza I picture the regular.

Actually, the Classic and 21 are closer to Chris's "original" Sebenza design than the Regular. Short of actually getting your hands on one of Chris's handmade models from the 80s, or one of his production "originals" from the early 90s, you might say that the Large Classic is "the" Sebenza.
 
I EDCd a Sm Reg for 3 years then a Lg Reg for 5. I did own a Lg Wood Classic, but never carried it. I bought a new Lg 21 a few months ago, and I like the 21 better of the 2. I do think the Reg looks better, but the 21 is just a better design as a tool. As mentioned above, there are acute "corners" on the 21, and the one on the spine/butt of the handle can get uncomfortable at times. THat would be my only gripe. Otherwise, the 21 is more comfy, and even though the blade shape is less attractive, It seems more useful to me.

the 21 & classic are pretty much apples 2 apples... the ergo's on the 21 are better than that of the regular... the ultimate sebenza for me would be a 21 with a reg profile blade :D as to your ? they all feel the same to a point and you can't go wrong with any choice
 
With respect to the large version I have both, so here's my take:
1) Visual appeal, that depends on which day you ask so I say tie.
2) Feel in the hand, +1 for the Regular too many sharp edges on the 21.
3) Blade shape, again +1 for the Regular I like the fuller profile.
4) Ease of unlocking, +1 for the 21 better ergos in this area.

If I could only keep 1? I'd likely pick the Regular, buts let's not hope it gets to that.;)
 
This is going to sound stupid, but I've never been able to tell the difference.

I could see that happening when comparing the Classic to the 21, but not the Regular to 21.

I think you may be doing the former rather than the latter.
 
I like the regulars my self, I prefer the blade and handle shape over the classic/21s, the regular handle feels more comfortable to me as well.
I have just never warmed up the the classic or 21 and doubt I ever will TBH.
 
To me, the Regular has a more full grip than the Classic/21. Visually, I think I like the blade shape on the Classic/21 more as it is more "bowie-like", but for usefulness I think I prefer the regular blade shape with its less pointy tip.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but can anyone weigh in on the Classic/21 blade shape differences. I have Classics from 2004 and 2007, and I think that there is slightly more upturn to the blade tip on the 2004 model than in the 2007. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this?
 
I like the 21- because that's what I carry. In a few days, it'll be a whole year now. A new record!

I'll let you guys know if I still like it in another year.;)

A big thanks to Chris Reeve- thanks to him, I never have to buy another folder again. :thumbup:
 
I like the Large Regular. someone please sell me one. I miss the few I used to own.
 
I'm interested in buying a small sebenza. I'm totally new to CRK but i'm also relatively new to collecting. I'm having similar issues in making decisions. So to set things straight... There is a regular, classic and 21? Or can a 21 be either classic or regular? I'm feelin stupid asking this stuff, but i've actually been researching and can't find definitive info.

Can someone post some picture comparisons?

I'm sure you'll get some pictures here shortly, but I just wanted to state that it isn't stupid at all to come here and ask basic questions. This is fun - no competition. I would venture that without exception, you'll get good information from willing folks who just love to share knowledge about things knife related.

Welcome and keep asking. There are some good "Stickies" at the top of the forum page that are permanent and will give you some interesting information. Basically, the three models you've mentioned (Regular, Classic, 21) are separate, individual Sebenza variations. The Regular and Classic have been discontinued, with some minor exceptions. Currently, the 21 is the standard Sebenza that is available from Chris Reeve and retailers. There is some old stock still floating around and LOADS of aftermarket sales going on, so you can find a model that suits you pretty easily.
